I want to say that I’m happy and proud of our Olympic all around gold metal winner. No bashing please!!!

A lot of people think we can’t grow our hair and the people that can have ‘good hair.’ I really hate that saying!!! What they don’t understand is all it takes is knowledge, time, patience, and dedication. When I start to get the questions about length and thickness, that is what I’m going to say. I posted this photo to show that ALL RACES have the same issues. See the thinning edges from the constant tight ponytail and probably drying products used? Most of ‘us’ think that this is a problem that we have only. If you don’t have the knowledge and you put undo pressure, stress on your hair, it will break-thin out, regardless of your nationality. It ‘may’ be on a larger scale for ‘us’ because our hair is more delicate in nature and we have less knowledge and patience in general.

This is just to provide that mental motivation for some of our members and lurkers alike. You can share any stories that show any problems that is mistakenly thought to be just ‘ours’ for any other nationality thought to have ‘good hair.’ Who thought of that crap!!! I do not use that saying is normal life and I probably should not have used it in this post, but I know other people still use it. Straight hair is not the best hair. Wavy hair is also great along with great curly hair and great kinky hair!!!!! I can see a photo of a great head of hair regardless of the curl pattern or lack of to inspire me.

Girl, I thought I was the only one that noticed Nastia's thin edges

At first I though it might be blonde roots, but it definitely looks thin.

She's an amazing athlete and very pretty as well... I'm not hating or anything, just making an observation.

Yep, we all have hair difficulties. It sucks for her because she pretty much HAS to wear her hair up all the time.

I know!!! its not the blonde color. one side is thicker than the other but it's starting to thin too at the temple. there are also pics, probably when she is just training and not competing and it has grown back. she has to be careful of the traction alopecia. also some of the girls from china has the same thing. it's not just us.

Nastia! I really like her. I always pronounce her name like I'm saying Naaasstttaayyy! Some people naturally have a weak hair line (like me). But you gotta work with what you have. I think the problem for many is exasperated with mechanical manipulation and improper use of relaxers and dyes. I'm very thankful for sites like this for the knowledge it has given me.

I definitely have noticed the traction alopecia w/ these gymnasts. They are pulling back their ponies WAY too tight, imo.

Wow, great observation. Something to keep in mind. Makes me feel better that we are not the only ones prone to thin edges due to our popular hairstyles.

HAHA I thought I was going crazy or just really hair obsessed!! This is one of the first things I noticed! I brought this to my friends attention as well!

I saw that too. Thin edges know no race or culture.

Did anyone else notice how many hair clips those girls wear? One had like 50 rows of clips going across her head. :lachen: Ain't that many fly aways in the world. :lachen:

I don't get gymnast style either. Did you see the make up the Chinese team was wearing at the team competition? Dark blue shadow and very red cheeks.

well... they are young girls experimenting I guess!

btw... I just gotta say that it sucks that Nastia got screwed for that gold medal :nono:
