Sabino Moisture Block experiment/challenge?

I didn't quote Sabino's last email, but that was an AWESOME reply. He really does seem to care about his clients. I can not WAIT to be able to purchase some for myself. Let me copy and paste his extra instructions!

I clarified, washed again with a moisturizing shampoo, did a protein treatment and a dc. I then applied the sabino to my hair, maybe too much for collar length hair. I've been transitioning since January and I have a little over 4 inches of ng.

I blew my hair out, applied a little more Sabino and then flatironed with my Maxiglide all the way up. I was sweating so I went into my airconditioned bedroom and finished.

My scalp felt light, if that makes sense. Even in 90 degree weather for three days, my scalp still felt light. It was a tiny bit puffy on my nape and edges but my crown stayed pretty straight.

My hair felt different to me. I wanted to put stuff on it but I didn't really need to. After about6 days, I needed to wash my hair because it started to break a little. My naps were back and kicking that night.

I love this product but I'm too lazy to flatiron and too broke to buy the full version.

so now that Reggaeroots hair is back in order I'm back on board with the idea of an SBM experiment/challenge. I'll try it for maybe 2-3 weeks. to a month. I think it's still too humid down here in Miami even with SBM so I may have to wait till October to try this out

It has a flat part that he puts the strand of hair on and then he looks through a telescoop thingy, he did not say where he got it from I'll have to ask him next time. I do know that He has alot of clients who has long flowing hair that are (sistas) both natural and relaxed. People says Alex knows how to grow hair, he's just very good at what he does. He examins your hair b4 he puts anything in it.

I believe you. But Foica.com is not going to have any of those Sedu Revolution 2008's til September, and I want to use my SBM for the first flat-iron with the Sedu. I'm not too impressed with the CHI and I really want to knock-my-own-socks-off when I try the new Sedu.

I used the samples of Sabino last night to flat iron mynatural hair. Normally when I flat iron, it comes out smooth and I can usually get that salon swang. When I used it, my hair feels coated and does not have that swang. It feels a little stiff - I don't like how my hair feels. This is what I did, I washed, conditioned, dried, then applied the sabino to some of the sections in the front as I flatironed. Should I have applied it before I dried my hair? Maybe I put too much? ...

I'm thinking maybe too much. I used a bit more than usual this last time and my hair came out a lil stiffer than I like. In addition, I recommend applying to your hair while it's still wet. If you feel like you need a bit more, add it before you flat iron, maybe a dime size amount through your entire head.

THanks. I am a little heavy handed, but I was afraid that if I didn't use enough that my hair would revert - its supposed to rain later . I'm out of the samples but I think I'll order some and take your suggestion to put less on and put it on before I dry my hair. erplexed

Just a suggestion. When I apply the Sabino, I place my palm over the opening of the bottle and flip it once. Whatever is remaining on my palm, I use on my big old head.

Chile, you ain't said but a thang. dime sized amt! dime sized amt! puh-lease. I put a dime sized amt on an 1/8 of my head! okay. lesson learned

See, I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing (use to seal my leave-in but no flat iron).

BUT, the instructions discuss water soluble vs. waterproof. On page one of the three page letter that came with my Sabino sample, the paragraph right above the heading "The Truth About Silicones" suggests that waterproof products used with a flat iron at 400 degrees will "drive" the product deeper into the hair and four paragraphs above that they suggest that waterproof products will lock out moisture.

So, IF I am understanding this correctly, Sabino is waterPROOF and when used with excessive heat will be "driven into" (aka "cooked") into the hair shaft, sealing in whatever moisture you applied before the sabino and locking out any moisture after. And since it is waterproof it will last "from shampoo to shampoo" which I interpret to mean that the shampoo and water will not break down the sabino to wash it out.

Now, if I have understood correctly, then 1. they're lying because my sabino only lasted that one application (BUT please note I did not set my flat iron at or near 400 degrees) or 2. it will last and not allow your conditioners or deep conditioners to penetrate into the hair the next time you use them or after repeated use of Sabino.

If the latter is true, how do we get the Sabino out to DC? Or if it does not wash out then why reapply or add more?

I actually liked the way my hair felt immediately after applying and I liked how it felt after the flat iron, but I'm still not understanding if the heat drives it in and it does not come out or if it does come out with shampooing (again making their letter inaccurate where they said it lasts from shampoo to shampoo).

SO, after my babbling, LOL I want to join you. I just want to know that long-term this wonder stuff won't end up damaging my hair.

What? It is water proof but not shampoo proof. It will wash out upon shampooing. It does lock out moisture, but locks in any treatment you put in before applying. So basically it locks in your conditioner which is why he says to add some conditioner before applying. What it does is keeps the perfect moisture for your hair until the next wash. As most conditioners dissipate after a couple of hours (I've read all his stuff and emailed him a couple times), and leave ins too which is why they have to be re-applied. With his product, it actually makes other products last longer as they don't need to be reapplied as they are locked into your hair until the next wash. As for the heat, it's up to us to decide whether or not we want the heat. His product is a heat protectant, so in theory you would be protected from heat damage. I haven't seen any breakage, and only growth since starting it several months ago.

Remember, there is no need to flat iron consistently or AT ALL to be part of this. I am using the serum for it's protection properties mostly. Next I will use it for a wash and go.

Wow y'all he is such a professional.

Well I tried the SMB on my relaxed hair for wash and go pony, but by the time I put it on the waves were non existent. After I felt the hair was pretty coated (it was damp) I put it in a pony and then patted some water back through the tail to try to active some curl....I don't think it rinsed out MB, though. Still felt "treated" if that makes sense.....I used Fantasia sparklites gel on my tail, scrunching up to hold the waves...it looked pretty wet . But dry just looked the same as when I did it before.

So I need to try this again.....the problem is the best waves come with nearly soaking wet hair for me....all I did was rinse (head back, combed out then) leaving some Keracare humecto in, then put a towel gently over the hair. The waves hadn't begun to dry when I took the towel off....maybe they are just not curly enough? Or not enough clumping. I want to try his C4CH but I want to use up the brand new Sparklites gel....hmmmmmm.

Next wash, I'll either try another w'n'g, or just use the SMB to airdry in a single braid ponytail (sooooo boring, ).

Those who have already used SBM to flat-iron, would you say that the amount of SBM in one of the sample size vials was enough to protect/coat your whole head of hair? Exactly how much would you need (based on the sample size vials). This question is for SL, APLs, BSL and relaxed or natural heads. If you give an answer, also please tell how thick you'd say your hair is.
