Hello ladies. Please don't worry about my user name, it goes back to college and well it came to my mind fast.
But, I just wanted to ask am I ever going to see any ladies in America ever wearing those around the way type, yet classy, Gucci Braids of the early to mid 1990's?

Well, I thought they were called gucci braids? Thick, and not to be funny, but similar to "She-Nay, Nay" or like in the old LL Around The Way Girl video. I know I heard girls out here in Oak,Ca. calling them gucci braids. I also heard they called them that in Florida.
They may have been closer to like goddess-type braids, a bit more up-scale then

She-Nay, Nay. Please, girls if you read this don't laugh at a brotha. Peace.

Damn! I haven't seen those since like 94. We used to call them 'dookie braids', cuz they looked like the 'dookie chains'LOL...but to answer your question, I don't think those will be coming back into style anytime soon...but then again I was ten years old in 94. HOWEVER, there is a modified version of them that is samller. They are called twists or kinky twists. HTH

My braider recently told me that the braids Janet Jackson wore in Poetic Justice are coming back in style. Were'nt those dookie braids?

I used to love those braids too death girl. We call them in Cali. Dookey or Gucci braids too. I used to wear mines in a Waterfall. My bestfriend would part my relaxed hair and put brown gel on each section and put a little black rubber band on it and then add a little extension part way, then add on the big braid. I haven't seen anyone with them in a while. But they have never went outta style to me. Do anyone remember those gold clips we used to put on them? Oh I thought I was the s*** with my little hot a**, lol.

Yeah down here in new orleans we called them dookie braids too.
sexsweat3 are you saying that you would like for them to come back? Are they attractive to you?

bamachic, you bumped this? LMAO :lachen: Some things should never be resurrected  I wore dookie braids when I went to a 90's party as Yo-Yo a couple years back. Don't try to play me out, don't try to play me out!!

heeeeeeeyyyyy! take it back!

wait, what was this post about? where to get some dookie braids? asking if you'll get laughed out in 2008 if you got some dookie braids?

OMG she took it way back. Im not go even laugh, cause alot of the older hairstyles are comming back. I.E. the flips, mohawks, big hair, just to name a few. But I am curious as to why this thread was bumped from 2004. Are you thinking about getting some braids?

This thread is so dusty!

DOOKIE BRAIDS??? Please. I hated those things. Well, not so much hated. I just hated to see women at formal events with dookie braids. Not to my liking and I was 20something when they were out and NEVER had my hair braided like that. I wore single braids and goddess braids, but dookie, never!

I had poetic justice braids back in '93. They nearly touched the bottom hem of my size 5 Whitney Houston minidress. You couldn't tell me nothing.

My guy(s) at the time said that I looked like Marge Simpson when I wrapped my braids at night with my blue scarf.:lachen:

Shoot, I think my cousin used about half a pack of the 1.99 braiding hair on each braid. They weighed an extra 7 pounds and I had to lift my head with my hands in the morning.

My hairline still has not recovered.

YEs!They were heavy.I made big money in Jr.High braiding folks hair like this.I used like 8 packs of hair on my head when I got some.I like em but now that i know better they will not be making a come back on my head...

In Texas we called them Dookie braids. To be honest they are probobly better on your hair then those micro braids.

This thread should directly relate to the 'How big is too big for twists' thread!

Man, I think I had dookie braids once. Once. Too damn heavy. :lachen: And the gods forbid you get them wet!!!!

You're talking about senegalese twists which some people call goddess braids (not to be confused with the large goddess braids). Kinky twists look like 2 strand twists done on natural hair but with hair added.

The only time in my life that I ever had braid extensions it was those (not by choice) my head was 20 pounds heavier too.:lachen: I took them out after two weeks. My braider was mad!
