I use a serum by giovanni as a heat protectant.

Heat protectant is designed to protect or guard your hair from direct heat you are putting on it such as curling iron, flat iron, hand blow dryer. I personally like Tresseme heat protectant it is like $2.54 at Walmart. I love the smell and when you use the spray bottle it sprays as a light mist, it dosen't weigh your hair down. i use CHI silk infusion. people go back and forth on whether or not this is a heat protectant but i love it regardless. and it adds great shine.
