I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jasmine, and I discovered this forum late last night, and I am still in disbelief that there is a hair forum dedicated soley to women of color. I'm still mad I just found it last night! lol. I wasted no time subscribing, because I'm trying to learn as much as I can about my hair, and plus I need to stop going to the salon EVERY two weeks like I'm crazy.

Welcome aboard..don't be mad...this is a forum which comes to you when it's the right time so rejoice..your time has come. Yes, women of color but there are a few members open about being caucasian and a few incognito here{no doubt, no doubt}..nonetheless we are here to grow healthy, longer hair.

Welcome Jasmine! Such a purdy name :D

Be prepared for some loooong nights, LHCF is addicting!

Thank you all for the extremely warm welcome & compliments! I'm very excited, and I've learned so much already! I did my first co-wash tonight, and I LOVE the results. I've also found some great websites like maneandchic.com, and I'm enjoying the Fotki's, which are completely new to me. I signed up for one, but I have no idea how to get it all cute and stuff.

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

Thank you! Yours is as well! Thank you all for the continuous warm welcome...this is waaay better than myspace! lol. Seriously though, I'm looking at everyones progress, and I'm just amazed! I'm about to be 19 and I'm really just now taking control of my own hair, so I have a lot of catching up to do. I'm excited!

Well, for the past two years I have been going to the salon every two weeks and getting a relaxer every 2-4 months. The only thing that I would do to my hair inbetween was put some stuff in it, and wrap it. I'd try to flat iron it, but it just didn't turn out right, so it'd become damaged. My hair is pretty strong, so I just get the ends cut and it grows back quick. I basically have no regimen, but I want to develop one because I want to keep my hair up myself and only go to the salon for my relaxer. I don't really have any knowledge about products, I just know that I have to stay away from heavy moisturizers like pantene, and pink oil moisturizers.

I tried doing my own hair for the first time in a looong time last Friday!

  • I washed my hair with Design Essentials Moisture Retention conditioning shampoo.
  • I conditioned DE's Stimulations conditioner
  • After that, I put DE's silk essentials in and blow dryed my hair
  • I took a break because my arms were tired!
  • I curled my hair with a curling iron.
Not exactly the salon finish, but I'm more than likley going to have to invest in a hard hat dryer, and a some good flat irons!

Lol, trust me, I do. I always have questions, and I love getting opinions before I make decisions, and my friends are usually like "I don't know!" lol. I have issues with maintaining my hair, and I need motivation, cause sometimes I'm just ready to shave my head and pretend to be monk.
