Now you know good and darn well, I no longer promote what is also known as the debil relaxer.:nono:

What works for some, does not work for all. :look:

But I do love it...almost 4 years and we're still together...

I've been here for a minute now....and I can't recall any numerous threads on those two...so... the title still holds...

pink oil makes relaxers? dang, what rock i been hidin under? didn't they get the hint to stop makin the lotion let alone make a relaxer?

First, the way my hair felt when I initially did the relaxer. There was no feeling that my hair was "stripped"; it didn't feel as if my hair strands were thinner. My hair felt, well "heavy" for lack of a better term; like it was holding moisture.

Second, with previous relaxers after a couple of weeks my hair would revert - not just the NG that had been touched up, but the entire length, as if the relaxer wasn't truly permanent. With the Phyto, my hair is still relaxed, still strong, still glorious. :yep: If I wasn't wearing buns all the time I think I could successfully roller set it, or blow dry it. With previous relaxers, by the two-week mark, those weren't going to be pretty or smooth.

ETA: NO BURNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is a thread i will be following closely; in an effort to wake up my nappy headed cousin (and i only say this cause her hair is neck length and overprocessed) i am trying to find a good relaxer for her, and all she can say is "i have a sensitive scalp, all i can use is botanicals"

:look: dumb *****...but i digress. i hear about phyto a lot so i am thinking this is for good reason.

I have to second that. I was so shocked. Usually after the first wash with another relaxer, you could see the waves and curls popping out. With Phyto, I'm tellin you, it stayed straight for a month. I was so worried I kept lookin in the mirror to see if I was seeing things.

My hair was also fuller and not flat and lifeless after using other relaxers. So it was straight, but had body.

Thirdly, I think I have the most sensitive scalp in the world. And I've tried every relaxer under the sun, including all those so-called "sensitive-scalp" relaxers. I've burned with all of them. Scratching or no scratching. With Phyto, I didn't burn, even though I had scratched that same week of the relaxer. Usually I have do a jig to get them to wash my daggone hair out cause it only stays on for about 5 minutes. I had minutes to spare with Phyto, read some magazines, did my nails, went shopping..........okay, not really, but you get my drift.

Yes it costs the same as a Beverly Hills mansion, but I can put five on it:look:

this is what i needed to hear. maybe i will get it for her! can it be used if you are a self-relaxer or is it one of those things you gotta get from the pros only? and more importantly...how much is it?

I know quite a few people who've successfully self-relaxed with it. Apparently it's kinda hard to wash out, but you know LHCF'ers have a solution for everything. What they've suggested is that if you self relax, to get it to wash out faster with no residue, use an ACV (apple cider vinegar) rinse to wash out. I haven't self relaxed with it myself cause I haven't practiced, but maybe one of these days.

As far as the cost, if you're self relaxing, I think the kit costs about US 60 dollars, and you can get it from a few different websites (amazon being one). I'm sure there are places/websites that sell it cheaper, but I don't know which ones. Yeah, kinda pricey, and if you're going to a professional I imagine the total cost would be higher. If you're confident enough, I say go the self-relaxing route so at least you can use your own products. HTH:yep:

I have been using Phyto for 3 years now. What keeps me going back is the body and volume my hair has immediately following the relaxer. My hair is straight but yet full and strong.:yep: I will never use another relaxer. I use Index 1. I does seem to hold moisture as well.

Yall are making me consider this. Me and my hair are not on good terms lately and I need to do something to baby it and treat it well. SUBSCRIBING.

I've been using Phyto Index 1 for almost two years now and will never go back to any other relaxer. My scalp is very sensitive and it didn't burn at all. It gets my hair super straight super fast. My hair isn't very resistant so I don't even use the full jar most of the time and I can only leave it in for about 5 min or else it will be bone straight. And even then it still has body and shine but most importantly for me is it's not drying. My hair was like the sahara after using no-lye relaxers for so long and with Phyto I saw the difference immediately.

Gym, you know how much I love it I won't use anything else. Expensive? Yes, but considering I don't go to a salon thats ok.

I'm able to stretch for long periods. My last stretch had to stop because I had a lot of growth. my scalp was like girl you better do something we dying up here:lachen:

Super gentle on my scalp. Granted, I know that some people DO have problems with it, I don't. I don't base with this relaxer.

I have body. I have medium/fine strands and with AtOne Sensitive it would be plastered to my head. Lye would eat my scalp alive and my poor scalp would be one gigantic sore.

There's 2 things that are kinda blah about it but not bad enough to make me stop using it.

Hard to rinse out. 10 washings without an acv rinse and my suds would still be light pink. Prior to shampooing I use a solution of water and acv and let that sit on my head for a 2 minutes. I get white suds with the first wash. I wash 2 times though, just because.

How much you actually have to use versus time left on your head. Even with index 2, I have to make sure to use enough to really cover my hair. I could leave it on for 30 minutes but if I didn't use enough of the relaxer, I'll get the equivalent of 3b-c hair. It won't matter how much I smooth it. If you use enough relaxer yes, you will get really straight! :yep: I wavelax so I try to not pack a lot of relaxer on.

Love Phyto and will never evah use another brand.

I get hair that is not lifeless and flat but smooth, soft and shiney with body.

I don't experience any burning.

My hair is never dry (I don't use the reconstructor in the kit).

Pollyandco.com sells it for $54.00 and she gives lots of samples. I just wished my hair liked them :ohwell: Service is super quick too!

That's why I love this relaxer, I've yet to get a burn. I self-relax and if it wasn't for this relaxer, I would probably be still going to the beauticians...I relax myself every 16 weeks and get salon results everytime. Can't beat Phytorelaxer Index II..

I'm a self relaxer so the cost would not be any more than me going to get it done. Thanks for your review!

gym thanks for this thread. I plan on relaxing in Dec and wanted to use this relaxer. I am having a difficult time finding stylists in my area that use it though....but I will keep looking.

Cosigning what everyone has already stated. I've been using Phyto for 1 year now.

The first time I used Phyto II a little asian boy at the supermarket asked his mom was I Oprah. I don't look anything like O but my hair sure did! Only once did my hair have the straight stuck to my head look and that's because the stylist I went to didn't use the neutralizer that came with the kit. Needless to say, I am a self-relaxer.

After the first few times of using Phyto, I switched back to ORS because I waited to long to order Phyto online. A few weeks later my hair was very dry compared to the same time with Phyto. It just does something to your hair overall that helps to keep it moisturize weeks after application.

I can stretch for 12 weeks when I use Phyto without any major issues. ORS I can make it about 8 weeks. I self-relax also and with 12 week stretches that allows me to relax only 4 -5 times a year. (If I can control my PJ tendancies in other areas I'll be okay). The stylist that used Phyto and had my hair looking like Oprah charged me $90 that day.

I never had a scabby scalp from burning after using Phyto.

It is hard to rinse out. I haven't used the ACV rinse and it takes me about 5 washes and the entire bottle of neutralizer to get the suds to turn white. After the second wash I try to leave the shampoo in longer before rinsing.
I relax straight and agree with applying the relaxer on thicker to get better results.

I also order from PollyandCo.com. I also get my 32 oz Keracare Shampoo and Conditioner from her and I trust her product freshness. All I know is that there was definitely a difference between the Phyto I purchased in-store at Sephora and the one I got from her. Much better results from Polly's. Also, as far as the samples, I recently read that the Phyto shampoo works better if diluted. Just thought I'd share.

what is the difference that you've experienced? I've only bought mine from Nordstroms. why is Polly's better?

I just wanted to come in and say that I LOVED Index 2. I had to stop using it because I had to feed my kids...it's expensive!

...but seriously Gym, I think you will be very impressed with this relaxer and everything that everbody said here is right on.:yep:

I haven't gotten an "old" relaxer from Polly. Each one that I've used from her have given me consistent results and the relaxer takes well. The one I got from Sephora - using the same procedure that I always do - left my hair underprocessed and frizzy. The box from Sephora was a little dusty when I got it so I'm assuming my relaxer results may have been due to the box being in Sephora for a long time. I even noticed a difference in the consistency of the relaxer both before and after mixing in the inductor. Just my assumption. I really don't know anything about Sephora's stocking procedures - I just know I won't be getting another one from them anytime soon.

I just relaxed my hair again yesterday! Still impressed!
I am considering switching to a lye relaxer but the jury is still out on that decision.

Does anyone know if Lye = thicker hair?

In my experience not always. I think the time of processing regardless of relaxer is the most important factor in keeping thickness. That and overlapping protection.

In three weeks, I will be relaxing for the third time this year with Phyto Index II. Since my hair is coarse, I chose to try the strength for thick coarse hair. I post on other boards, so some of you know that I am a Phyto girl for life! I have tried many other relaxers in the past, and have gotten many different results, not all of them bad. I like Phyto because it lives up to its expectations as a hair straightener, (relaxer), does it quickly, (very little burning) and I get to have the comfort of knowing that the straightening agent comes from nature (mushroom salts) compared to a man made chemical like sodium hydroxide. But I have learned through research, that no matter what straightening agent is used in a relaxer (lye, no lye) that agent can be caustic if used incorrectly. I take my kit to my stylist, and let her apply.
I also like using Phyto because there is less shedding for me in between relaxers, and my new growth is more manageable. My plan is to stretch for 17 weeks, and get 3 perms a year! I am eternally grateful to the creators of this relaxer, Patrick Ales, and his partner Fatou Batchily-Plat (yes she's black) for putting this formula together.

Here's a direct quote from the product sheet thats inside the box kit:

"Patrick Ales, creator of Phytotherathrie, precursor and leader of hair
care through plants has developed in collaboration with Fatou Batchilly-Plat, specialist in cosmetology and phytochemistry, exceptional high-technology hair care products, specially formulated for natural, coarse or relaxed hair. Particularly delicate, constantly under threat, such hair requires adapted, safe and effective treatment. The PhytoSpecific line offers hair care products to hydrate, restore, stimulate, protect and straighten the most sensitized hair with maximum security. Instantly, your hair recovers elasticity, vigor, manageability and shine."

I order my kit from on-line at Hair Boutique for $60.00 plus shipping. I like ordering from there because you get free samples of other Phyto products. They have many other lines under the same Phyto brand. The PhytoSpecific line was made for black hair. So with all that being said, I do love Phyto,:love3: and plan on using it as long as my hair likes it!!! BTW Phyto has opened a new salon in New York-it is georgous!!! They even grow their own plants for product production on the exterior walls of the salon!! (google it to see for yourself). We should all fly there to get our Phyto relaxers put in...its only $$$$300.00 to get this service performed! I'll be like ShiShiPoPoo, won't be able to feed my family! Oh well, a girl can only dream....HHG!

I have been using Phyto Index 2 since I started back relaxing in Feb 2007. I can't imagine ever using another relaxer. My hair would eventually become damaged w/lye relaxers from overprocessing...so I knew I had to have a no lye this time around. I love it. I will say that I have less of a use for protein treatments and conditioners. But I use tons of moisturizing products for treatments and conditioners. My hair has never been healthier, retained length at this rate in my relaxed life. I highly recommend it. All the pp's are right after a relaxer your hair still has body, thickness, and bounce...its amazing.
