MaxiGlide +Naturals = Teeth and Steam?

Just curious. My H is about to pay $106 for the hsn kit. I like the idea of teeth to get a bone straight finish but heard it tears natural hair out. TRUE?

Also, steam is fab for naturals, but I heard we can't use cause of reversion. TRUE

If true to both, what is my reason for investing so much $ in a toothless steamless flat iron???

I like the steam feature it leaves my hair soft. PLease be careful w/the teeth, make sure your hair is well detangled beforehand. I honestly think using the Maxiglide w/teeth contributed to alot of the breakage and split ends I was having. I recently cut quite a bit of hair. I think I should have been more careful w/my use of it. It did get my ends straight though. It is kind of bulky and that's one thing I didn't like. The plates are huge though and I can straighten my hair quickly w/it.

I use both the steam and the teeth. My hair is relaxed, so I cannot say for sure whether it pulls out natural hair. However, I use my MG only from weeks 12-24, when I have tons of new growth. I concentrate the flat iron on the new growth, which is technically natural.

I learned how to properly and safely use the MG by viewing Sylver2's fotki tutorial, which is 90+ pages of visuals.

She says not to press down the iron all the way. By not pressing down, it prevents ripping. I only started using MG during my last stretch, and that was my most successful stretch in over 2 years. Hope that helps answer your question a bit.

1.... Not necessarily. I have the Maxi... and one in NOT supposed to hold the iron So tight that it is pulling. You will get the hang of it. there is also a DVD that comes with it ( anyway I think it does still)....Make sure yoyur hair is as DETANGLED as possilble.

2......STEAM is a good thing.... And it helps you get your hair Straight along with a balance of moisture.... There is no reversion in this instance...

I agree. I airdry with a scarf about 80%. Then I blow-dry in sections on the cool setting. Lastly, I flat-iron, again in small sections.

I only used it biweekly, because it is direct heat, which I think should be used sparingly.

ooh i just got my 20% off coupon for BB&B! i already have a solia but i want to try this one. i believe there are a lot (more) naturals who use it specifically because of the teeth.

Wondering if using the teeth on the ends first and then the rest of the hair would reduce breakage. Truly the teeth are a major selling point for me. I am sick to hear about your breakage and splits.

Wondering if I use the mini on the ends (less bulky)??? So many questions!!!

I do a pony tail roller set.... then it is MUCH eaiser to work them ends.

I just reread your original post and noticed that you're paying $100+ for it.
I paid about 70+ (with shipping). And it still came with the teeth, flat plate, brush, dvd, sample prods and all.

I think I bought it at drugstore.com or amazon. Cannot remember exactly where, but I thought I would share.

I'm natural. I just bought my MaxiGlide for $100 too at BB&B. I like the teeth and steam combo. I used it on Sunday (my B'day) and my hair was soft but also very...bulky!! I guess I should've pressed it first then flat ironed. As far as my ends, it didn't give me any split ends.

I love the Maxiglide and don't have any problem with pulling out hair or reversion of the steam. Actually, when I didn't use the steam, my hair turned out different and I didn't like it.

I'm not natural, but you can't look at my hair and tell me it's not nappy
