Protecting your Ends during a perm

Honestly, you can never go wrong with Extra Virginin Olive Oil. Maybe you have some in your kitchen? I use to saturate my ends and the relaxed sections of my hair with it, and once I finished neutralizing, I would add more of the olive oil with my deep conditioner. Gives hair a WONDERFUL shine without being greasy. Make sure you don't get any on the scalp...may hinder the relaxer effect. Good luck!

hm, never heard of using something like porosity control on the ends. i've got that mizani butter blends normalizing conditioner. would that be sorta the same? are the results/benefits any better than using oil/grease?

Does anyone have suggestions for protecting your ends when you're perming ?

I"m not trying to be funny but why should the ends be protected? The perm is not being put on the ends but ladies are putting conditioner on their ends. I just don't get why anything needs to be put on your ends. Enlighten me ladies, please, maybe I'll start putting conditioner on my ends.

When I'm washing out the perm, I don't like the residual running down the length of my hair. The chemicals will still open up the cuticles, so I try to protect the ends as much as possible. I also notice that my ends remain thick when I prevent this from happening.

yes what the poster above said...it's called runoff; the runoff as you wash the relaxer out can get on parts of your previously relaxed hair and do work on it before you can get it all out. I used cholesterol last time.

I use conditioner+oil and seal it with lots of grease or petroleum jelly.

Yeah, it's a lil extra :look: but you can never over protect (IMHO).

Do you ever wonder why some people hair is thinner or easily broken from relaxers? It's because the rest of their hair is not protected from the relaxer when they are washing it out. It's called relaxer runoff. The chemical will still get on your previously relaxed hair therefore overprocessing it. When people put conditioners, oils, and amino acids on their hair pre relaxer, they are actually preventing the relaxer run off from touching their previously relaxed hair. Does that make sense?

i mix cholesterol with neutralizing shampoo and slather that on my ends and most of the length.
