ORS mayo caused my hair to knot up and mat

I have not had any issues with knots, matting, excessive breakage or shedding for about a year, until now. After my co-wash this afternoon I decided to use ORS since it was just taking up space in my hair cabinet. Well, I soon as I applied this stuff, my hair felt funny….kinda rough and not smooth like it does with my regular deep conditioners (WEN & Jessicurl). Before I could finish applying it I decided to rinse because I didn’t like the feel of things. While in the shower I felt my hair drawing up and knotting, it was rough under the water and I couldn’t run my fingers through my hair. :perplexed So, I picked up my nexxus hydrasleek and dumped half the bottle on my hair massaged and rinsed….NOTHING….Then I tried it with my Devacurl One-C…a little better but I still had massive knots. Keep in mind Im 16 weeks post and I want to remove the knots as gently as possible to keep from breakage.

By this time I’m in major panic mode!!! :whyme:

I jumped out of the shower :bath2:to get my unused bottle of Perm stabilizer (this is the first time I ever used this product) and the knots did not budge! I’m starting to feel sick….I would hate to have a MAJOR setback! Finally I grab my lavender & fig WEN and my hair starts to feel better, after I rinse I apply jessicurl weekly treatment and proceed with detangle.

I had A LOT more hair shed and breakage than normal which has me a little sad because I’ve been doing so well, but this was a VERY humbling experience! I was starting to feel a little overly confident about my haircare practices since things in the health & maintenance department was going so well! :look:

Hmmm... I have never had this problem with any of the ORS products. Had the product expired? When was the last time that you had actually combed and detangled your hair?

Maybe since you're 16 weeks post you had a lot of shed hair trapped in your hair that knotted up when you agitated your hair?

I was recently 14 weeks post and had to spend maybe 40 min. pulling single strand knots apart b/c of shed hair I didn't properly comb out.

Sorry chica :bighug:

ORS mayo is either hit or miss for me. That is why I had to stop using it. It should get better in a wash or so.

That's what I'm thinking (hoping) happened. You cannot be afraid to detangle and comb your hair. Been there done that. :yep:

****Runs to go dig the product out of the trash****

I don't see a expiration date on the jar, I've had this jar for some time now and have used this particular jar before with NO problem.:perplexed

Ajoyfuljoy, I usually stretch this amount of time with NO problem. Everything was cool until I applied the ORS mayo!
Hey Gym, I've never had a problem with ORS! However, I have notice that sometimes after I use it my hair just feels okay. The first time I used ORS it was awesome, this was one of my staples before I found the hair boards. Once I became more hair savvy I shelfed ORS for other things. Man, I wish I hadn't used this stuff!:wallbash:

Manuska, please don't be discourage, it may work for you! However if your hair does not feel smooth upon application I would rinse immediately!!!:yep:

Well, I just finish rollersetting, I had a bit more breakage and shedding...this sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

I just washed Saturday with no problem. The whole time while I was in the shower co-washing my hair was fine, as soon as I applied ORS my hair started to feel weird, so much so I had to rinse it out immediately!

Its gonna be okay. Hopefully this breakage will only last on wash. The only thing that works all of the time for me from ORS is the replenishing conditioner.

Hmm...Most ors products, aside from the replenishing pak, do not agree with my hair. I personally prefer Africa's best organic mayo

So sorry this happened! Maybe the ORS went bad? Geesh who knows? ORS always softens my hair and allows me to get the comb through. How much longer do you ploan on stretching? Maybe that was your hair trying to tell you it's ready for a touch up. Sorry girl! I hope you get back on track, you have made such awesome progress!

Thanks selfstyled

Im getting my touch up next Thursday...I'm washing once more before my touch-up on Sunday!

It might have went bad, because I have never experienced a conditioner making my hair knot up like this before! I'

Let me know how the touchup goes.

ITA with the bold. I switch to Africa's best because ORS made my hair feel "weird" as well and didn't moisturized. I love the organic mayo (it's an staple).

For my hair ORS is the debbil. It smells good but I have had very little luck with this unless I dilute the heck out of it.
