How often do you trim?

And most importantly HOW do you trim?

Please tell your techniques that work for you..

I haven't touched my hair with scissors since I cut out the last of the bleached/dyed hair (02/07), and I don't plan on cutting it again until it's long enough for me to do search & destroys on (most likely middle/end of next year, sometime)

When I was trimming, I would either trim my hair while it was in two strand twists (tiny trim) or braid it up into 10- 12 box braids, and trim (major trim).

That's how I do it. I don't do it very regularly, though. Before hair boards I probably did it once or twice a year. Now, hmmm, probably 3 times in the last year. I'm not totally sure it helps. :look: I haven't trimmed since March and I'm going to see how long I can go and see if it makes my hair any worse.

Oh, this is not totally accurate. Post-hair boards and particularly in the last 3 months or so, I've been cutting out single strand knots in what people here call "search and destroy". I have not seen any split ends since around October last year (when I saw exactly one) , so there are none I see to cut off.

I get my hair trimmed every 6 months by my stylist. My hair is blowdried, pressed and then trimmed. Q

ok so u ladies are twiting your hair then nippin off the eds?

i personally cant see if i have any splits ends or not - so i just trim anyways, my hair is only about 7 inches right now.

I usually straighten my hair every 6- 8 weeks before braiding / trimming is that too much heat???

you know I have stressed myself out about when to trim ...if i have spits ends etc etc ...for so long now. I think i may just do this, get it done every 5-6 months by a good professional.

how much do u trim off when u get this done?

I trimmed once when I flat ironed my hair. I was only trimming the few hairs that were just ridiculously longer than the rest of my head. I had a hand full of hair that hit WL and I was like WTH is that about. And I trim split ends when I find them.

:sekret:

I don't worry about split ends, at this length, at all. I don't wear my hair straight, I can't see them, and I've got splits all up and down my strands, so trimming wouldn't get rid of them all, anyhow.

By APLish, or so, I might start caring. Possibly.

I used to worry too but if realized that if I took care of my hair properly, yeah I will have some splits but not a lot. She usually trims anywhere from 1/2 to a full inch each time. More often it is usually only about a half an inch. Q

I haven't trimmed since like 2 wks after bein natural. i consider trimming the times when i have to cut big ol knots out my head

Last 2-3 years, I've been trimming twice a year. I let a stylist do it, though...and watch how much they take off. I tell them not to go over one inch.

I also dusted for the first time a couple of months back. I literally untwisted my hair (my hair was in twists), sprayed it down and combed it through...and ONLY cut off the split hairs. So it took hours and hours to do.

Next time my hair is pressed again, I plan NOT to let the stylist trim it...I'll just DUST it while it's straight, before I wash the press out :yep:
