What do/did YOU DO to protect your ends? Currently I part my hair in four sections and make a ponytail, then put some conditioner on the ends of each pony tail and baggy. This is something new for me, just got a hair cut so I'm trying to figure out how to baggy with such short hair.

All advice welcomed and appreciated...

I baggied my whole head every night just as I still continue to do today. Just put on a plastic cap after putting all my hair in plaits. In the day I just wore my hair out in a puff...or cornrows in front (ends protected in this) and puff in the back. I didn't really "protect ends" then. Later I put extension braids so again ends not really protected but the little manipulation did help me attain growth.

Now that my hair is a little past shoulder and still in braids, I'm working on protecting my ends by keeping my extensions cornrowed so ends of my hair are hidden.

Did you moisturize the ends before putting the cap on? Sorry, probably a dumb question. I've seen where people have said they baggy their whole head, but never paid any attention to what they did exactly. Guess I should have paid attention :look:

Honestly not that much. I cut off my damaged ends and always made sure my hair was DCed. I used to DC twice a week and I think that really helped. I also moisturized my hair with a light moisturizer everyday. I wore my hair up and out of the way at least half the week, so I'm sure that helped also.

I didn't have a problem going past shoulder length.

When in braids or twists, I don't use any moisturizer on my dry hair. I do CW or shampoo then condition though. But when my hair is dry, I just put the baggy on my dry hair. When wearing my hair out, I use S-Curl is a moisturizer but I don't apply it every night. Only on wash day. Baggying every night seems to keep my hair moisturized till washday.

Pretty much the same. It took me a while before I could get all my hair up. I tried braid-outs to stop using heat, but I had to wait a while before I could truly protect the ends by hiding them.

I grew my nl hair using a sew in weave. I used a sew in weave for 4 months and I was 1 1/2 inches sl. I did have some matting but I still has some great growth. I now keep my weaves in for the most 7-8 weeks and I wash and dc weekly.

I baggied my whole head nightly, and didn't worry about it during the day. If I had known about spritzing back then, I would have carried one around to 'refresh' my ends, but otherwise - nothing, really.

Okay, thanks for the replies ladies. I have a picture of how I wear it but I can't figure out how to attach pictures on here yet. I braid the hair on each side and once the braid reaches the back of my head, I gather both braids and tuck the ends and I have a clip that I put on it. I know that may sound a bit weird...

Same here. I'd put very little moisture on my hair at night - then baggy. When I got up in the morning I'd cornrow my slightly damp hair back, shower, get dressed and by the time I was ready to take the cornrow out, I'd have little crinkles (very short braidout) and then I'd put on a cute headband or wrap the front. It is a great protective style for summer.

Yaye, this is my method too. I'm glad to know that it really does work with the proper care.

I cannot get my hair in buns yet. So, I have cornrowed and worn half wigs, and co washed. Right now I am in a sew in, with daily spritzing, and oiling my edges. My sister had gotten great growth, and I have also. This should last me until I can wear buns without hair sticking out!

I started with hair that wasn't even NL. NL was a milestone for me! I don't do protective styles but my hair's usually in a ponytail though. I usually moisturize my hair in sections and put extra on the ends.

I didn't do much. I made sure to wrap my hair at night and use less heat (I was relaxed bone straight).

sew in sew in sew in!!!

im still working on making it past shoulder.. but u can see in my siggy how a sew in is getting me thru it.... im very satisfied with my growth since my first sew in (april) im currently wearing my second and cannot wait to take comparison pix!

I did something similar. I parted my hair horizontally and baggied a ponytail on top and one on the bottom and that worked really well for me. You could try braids too like some others have suggested :yep:

Well I spritz with VO5 moisturizing milk conditioner, braid moisturizer, and EVOO, in a bottle then I spray in between the tracks onto my real hair and on the braids. I did it last time I took my sew in down, and my hair was sooooooo moisturized. It has helped my hair out plenty. I also would co wash with my sew ins. But, that caused my sew ins not to last. I also make sure to oils my edges, just to have less tension. I has worked for me!:yep:

Thank you all for the advice!!!

I have a whole month to figure out if I want a sew in or two strand twists. Decisions, decisions...

I baggied 5-7x/week, at night, and when I went out, I wore wash n' gos or puffs. Not really protective styles, I know, but with shrinkage I couldn't do much. Plus, my twists and braids looked a mess. :ohwell:

I'm going to wear sew-ins until I reach BSL, now. I'm about 2 in. from APL and I've been messing with my hair way too much.

Not weird at all. That's the protective style I'm using on my braids. I have worn this for as long as I have worn braids, but never as continuously as I'm doing now.
