I got a e-mail from Paypal telling me my account has been limited. My one year is paid for so why would it be limited? The e-mail said something about unusual activity on my card, which I can call me credit card company for transactions. They asked me to submit all informations including my credit card number again. That doesn't sound right to me, i'm not trying to get billed again by re-entering my personal infomation. Anyone have any insight, please feel free.

Be very careful, there are a lot of "fake" or phishing emails that are "seemingly" from banks, credit unions and other financial institutions like Paypal, but are not. Go directly to the Paypal website and get the email address for their customer service and forward the email you received. You can also check on your account at the Paypal website and if there were any issues, a notice would be there on your account.

Be sure not to follow any links out of the email in regards to contacting Paypal. If the email is one of the phishing ones, then it will lead you to a fake Paypal website and if you submit your info, then you can most likely become a victim of identity theft. So be careful and good luck!

I really don't like paypal. I got this same email once and paypal had allowed over $1,000 to be taken from my account, unauthorized by me. My paypal account was linked to by bank account so the money was gone!

They realized it was fraud and after doing an investigation, they put the money back in my account. However, this caused my account to be overdrawn and paypal would like give me the money that the bank charged me for covering transactions I had authorized. Paypal had the nerve to tell me they had to "contact" the person who took my money first! I was like WTF???? They insisted this was how the process had to be done even if they suspected fraud.

Please be careful when it comes to paypay. It is far from secure.

Trust me. Paypal would have called you directly if there was a real issue. They have your contact information and they definitely already know your card number. Your gut is telling you what you need to know so definitely trust that. Also, look closely at the email address it was sent from. If it doesn't end in paypal.com ONLY then its definitely a scam. Don't respond to the email, click on any links or call any number included in it like Cabellera said and contact Paypal directly thru their website if you feel its necessary. Keep an eye on your account for any weird changes and change your password ASAP!

Here is what you do. Do NOT click any of those links.

First go here http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/general/SecuritySpoof-outside

Then make sure you forward the email to the appropriate phishing address. Paypal has been pretty on shutting down phishing operations in the last couple of years.

Remember you should never click on links you're not sure of, if you do want to check your account do it in another browser window. Also never email your password or other information to anyone.

I'm sorry that you went through this. I link my paypal account to one of those Prepaid MasterCards. Although someone stealing from me most definitely wouldn't sit well , but the prepaid card offers me a barrier of sorts to what I consider my real financial information (bank info or credit card), I need not expose them to Paypal, the prepaid card works fine.

omg thats scary! I thought it was safe! :nono:

If there was something wrong with your paypal account they would call you, they won't send an email. Whenever you get these fake emails please forward them to [email protected] This way they can keep track of the fake emails and you will receive an email from them confirming that the email you received was fake!!!!

They didn't call me. I had to call them and it wasn't nice. :nono:

That sounds like a great idea! I'm going to have to do this asap!

I have a separate checking account for paypal. I'm not charged extra service fees for this account. Whenever I make a purchase I transfer the money into that account.

I never respond to those emails. I usually forward them to the spoof department.

It is safe. Scammers are just crafty. Any time you get an email asking you to submit personal information, don't. Such emails are so common. Could even appear to come from your bank with all the graphics you see when you log onto your bank website. The link could even be a string of your bank website address, only it doesn't take you where it says it will even if it looks like it. You're better off closing the email and going to your bank website. I know Wachovia puts any messages for you within your account, so you would have to login to get your messages. Forwarding the email to spoof@whatevercompanywebsite.com is usually what you're supposed to do with such emails. It helps the real company stop such emails from being sent out. New ones do evolve but by reporting them, you help keep the madness to a minimum.

When you get those emails there is often a link. click it. you will see thatit looks like the paypal site. However do not fill in anything. Look at the address bar on your internet explorer. Scroll all the way to where the address begins ie: htt://www. and copy all the way to where u see the .com or .net or etc and paste to the address bar. You will see where is directed. I got one it lead to a dead German website. It was a fraud.

These people count on the fact that we do not read or ay attention. I do. I reported that mess immediatly.

:nono: It's not a good idea to click on links. Sometimes clicking on a link could launch an executable file that installs spyware on your computer w/o you knowing. You're better off just forwarding the email to the company they claim they are writing from. Most companies will have on their website an address where you should report phishing emails or scam. You could also forward it to [email protected]. Some scammers are so good that the link could take you to a website that looks legit but isn't too. Don't let curiosity lead you to compromise your security/computer.

Thanks you guys for your giving your input and sharing your experiences. I'm not going back in the e-mail let alone click on anything. It just didn't sound right to me :nono:. After this year is done gonna get a temporary card just for these situations :yep:.

Don't click on it! Better yet try this - if you scroll over the link without clicking on it and look at the bottom left side of your browser (I use IE) it will tell you there where the link is pointed to.

For instance, try it on this link. Place your cursor over the address bar without clicking on it and then look at the bottom left of your browser if you are using IE (IDK where else you would look with others browsers but I'm sure you'll see it somewhere:

If you place your cursor over LHCF's address although it says LHCF its actually directed to - Guess where? :lachen:

Crazy huh??? You gotta watch everybody these days!
