Are your conditioning efforts defeated a few days after your wash by crackly hair?

Could the culprit be the chlorine, minerals and chemicals in your shower water?

I have been experiencing this problem even after intense DCing, moisturizing and sealing. My hair starts out feeling like a dream but as the days go on I feel like something is working against me.

I was on the organix website checking out their product line when I noticed a link for the iwater Shower Purification System www.myiwater.com. Has anyone used this? If so, did you notice a difference in your hair?

It has this “ion technology” that fuses water with antioxidants and not only softens the water but filters at the same time. The system claims to reduce up to 99.9% chlorine, remove hair dulling minerals, and helps keep hair color staying truer longer.

I have been using distilled water for my final rinse which helps a little. Just wanted some input before I invest. Also, any suggestions are welcome.

i've used a water purifier similar to that one before, but had to stop b/f i could notice results. I had low water pressure and the filter made it 10x worse :(. couldnt even get the soap off my body half the time :lachen: I would have otherwise kept it........

I've been using the iwater system for 2 weeks now. It's great! I've noticed that my hair is darker and has a nice sheen to it. I've also noticed that my hair is not as dry as it used to be. I thought I had porosity issues because after washing my hair, my hair would soak up all the water & moisture & become dry & dull within minutes. But since using the iwater system whenever I co-wash & bun, my ends remain wet till the end of the day. No more dry, dull hair!!!! My hair's retaining moisture very well.

My skin has also benefited. Ever since my surgery, I've had dry, itchy skin & have had to moisturize several times a day. Since the iwater, no more dry, itchy skin. My doctor thinks that the hard water in my shower may have been the culprit drying out my skin.

I tell you ladies, iwater is the truth! Worth every penny! I can't stop staring at my shiny hair. Loving it!

wow, this is me right now. I really need to try this system. Despite my best conditioning efforts, my hair is just not reacting well to anything it seems. I had plans to purchase a shower filter from Lowe's Saturday but will purchase this one instead.

Perfect! I have the same porosity concerns as well. And you are in Houston also? There is something in the water! Did you get yours from Bed Bath and Beyond or did you order online?

Hmmm, they didn't talk about how it works to remove minerals. It's pretty easy to remove water treatment chemicals from water. Just about any shower head filter on the market will do that. You'll see a huge improvement in your hair and skin from removing just the chlorine. Removing hard water minerals and softening the water is a different ball of wax.

They're the only filter I've ever seen make the claim that it can soften water. I'm intrigued but skeptical.

I have a couple of those 20% off coupons from Bed Bath and Beyond. I'm going to buy it, install it and test the water from it to see if it really softens water.

Thanks for sharing AVE One :hug2: If this works you will have saved me and DH about $1300 (the price for a whole house water softener).

Ouch, $1300 bones for a whole house ws. But usually those are worth it because they do get the job done. I am not quite sure how the iwater softens. I was reading on the site about tourmaline crystals in the filtration system. I don't quite grasp the "ion charges" and "tourmaline" buzz words going around now a days. I hear them alot now with the dryers and flatirons.

I bought one but couldn't install it. I was heart broken. A friend of mine says he's going to bring his wrench and install it for me. I think water softening means to remove those harsh minerals. I don't think water softening means much more than that and in that case, it's a water softener because it takes out what makes the water hard. Sort of like deboning a chicken. You make the chicken lose it's form or hardness by removing what makes it stand. You get it??? I could be wrong, but that's what I get from it. Can't wait to have it installed. My shower head pops on and off and it's screwed real tightly to the water pipe.:ohwell:

When folk say hard water or water minerals they're typically talking about calcium and magnesium. They can't be filtered out with a carbon filter. They'll just slip right past it. In traditional water softening systems the calcium and magnesium ions are replaced with sodium ions. The water runs through a bed of small plastic beads called zeolite. The beads are covered with sodium ions. As the water flows past the sodium ions attract and swap places with the calcium and magnesium ions. So the beads now have the calcium and magnesium ions and the water has salt ions. Eventually, the beads contain nothing but calcium and magnesium and no sodium and have to be recharged (or rinsed of magnesium/calcium so they can be used again). That's how you make the water soft and remove calcium and magnesium. I didn't think there was ANY other way, but I could be wrong.

Regular shower head filters won't remove calcium and magnesium. It's like trying to catch a flea with a butterfly net but if they've managed to attract the ions for calcium and magnesium that makes sense... but how they get rid of them. Zeolite has to be rinsed every day.

Supregirl - My boyfriend installed it for me but only because I was too lazy . It's quite easy. All you do is un-screw your shower head, screw the iwater on (which is a small, nice looking thing), and re-screw your shower head.

Tishee - try it! I spent a lot of money on porosity control & other products to battle porosity. After using iwater my skin & hair have never felt better.

AVE one - I searched through the stores around me & couldn't find one. I finally gave up & went to my trusty Amazon.com to get it.

Sareca - True, any filter will improve the state of your hair, but all the filters I got in the past were too bulky for my shower and the filter's weight always knocked my shower head down. I almost had a heart attack one morning when my shower head fell down with a loud thud! :lachen:I eventually gave up on filters until I found the iwater. Call me vain or gullible, but I like that the iwater is made specially for hair & skin. I REALLY like that it's small and weighs very little.

Let me know how it works out guys!

thanks sweetie! I am going to bed, bath, and beyond this afternoon to see if they have it.

I called 8 stores! If you look at the iWater website it says "Select Bed Bath and Beyond." Apparently none in my area were "selected." :(

I don't think you're gullible. If you are then I am too... I'm looking for one now. I'm skeptical but I'm definitely willing to try it. Just because it's never been done before doesn't mean it doesn't work. :nono:

I'm super tempted, because I remember your posts about your dry hair issues and I was reading it because I've been having the same issues. I'm checking the balance on my Amazon Visa right now--isn't that terrible? :D

Did the iwater lower your water pressure in the shower?

oh, rats. I am going to call there now. If it's not there, I am going to order from amazon.

bumping.....for updates. I called the B,B, & B in my area and they do not carry it. The guy I spoke with is going to check the warehouse and give me a call back. I was going to check the Home Depot for the GE that we have up stairs but wondered if this is a lot better b/c to be honest with you I did not notice a change in my hair/skin from the GE one.

ETA:I purchased this online yesterday from amazon and should be receiving it sometime next week. Originally, I purchase the GE smartwater shower filter from home depot. But after looking on the box, of course once I had returned home), this does not reduce chlorine but rather reduces the effect/taste/odor. I was unable to find any testing data online for it and just decided to take it back and give this a try instead.
