How old is too old for hair accessories?

I am 31 years old. I wear mainly protective styles and lately I have been trying to dress them up and add variety by using various hair clips, barettes, combs, ect. My mom and my sister both have told me that I am too old to be wearing these things. It wouldn't bother me so much except that I am single and I really want to get back into the dating scene. I am worried that my appearance may be hindering that. Do I look like a grown woman acting like a kid? Is their a magic age where your hair can have nothing other than bobbypins to hold the style?

Uh...no.

Besides...if ur young at heart...it shouldnt matter. I like the way Traycee styles her hair with the flowers . But even a swanky banana clip looks mature.

Bump them!:wallbash:

so adult women can ONLY wear their hair down and straightened at all times now? people get on my nerves.

besides, 31 is that perfect "grown woman with a youthful spirit" age IMO. do what you do chickie ;)

I don't think there is a age limit on hair accessories. Just be sure you hair doesn't look busy with them IMO

If you want to play it safe stick with clips and combs that are black, tortiseshell(sp), neutrals...as long as there aren't 50 million different clips in you hair you should be okay LOL

I've seen many beautiful hair pictures online or even in person with nice accessories on women of all ages. As was mentioned before so long as you don't have tons of 'stuff' in your hair, it would look fine to me. I would also add that a childish looking hair accessory might not be so cute on a 50 something but that’s subjective. I suppose the same fashion rules would apply (If you follow the rules to begin with).

But, imagine a 50+ rocking a hello Kitty purse? What would you think?

Age appropriateness.

Well, I'm pushing 44, am a lawyer and must appear professional and conservative most of the time and I started back wearing hair accessories a few years ago because I was bunning and it got boring and I needed some excitement for my hair . . .

I now have a VAST array of 'hairtoys' -- chopsticks and combs and pins with crystals and pearls and other jewels and shiny things on the ends (today I'm bunning with 2 chopsticks topped with dark green crystals, to match my outfit!). I have one chopstick topped with a cross (for church, usually), another pair topped with silver roses, another topped with blue bells that hang and ring (NOT for the office LOL! but great when on vacation or hanging with hubby and friends and feeling playful), man, I can go on and on -- I discovered a whole new way to spend money when I started looking for hair accessories, I'm a recovered "hairstick junkie" *sign*

IMHO, nah, no age limit for hair accessories . . .

:yep:

How old is too old?

The grave.

Hair accessories are not only for kids. Wear what you want in your hair. My daughter's Little Mermaid Barrettes don't appeal to me personally. But if I liked them, you better believe I'd wear them. :)

Besides...i think guys like cute and simple hair accessories....it shows that you have a flare about yourself....you're on the spicy side....ya got FLAVA!!

Thanks ladies! I just finished buying a couple more hairtoys at WalMart today. I think they are very age appropriate-they are brown, black, and clear crystal barettes to secure my fake french twist I am supporting for this week.

Old:Mold, do your thingy.
I love hair candy and I love to see other people wearing it. If it was for kids why do you find it in many clothing stores that don't sell childrens clothing. I see hair accessories all the time. Maybe some of this falls into the same problem we have when relatives and other people don't really understand our hair care.

I think that's key. There's nothing wrong with them as long as they look adult. I wouldn't go around in bright colored click clacks in my ponytail (although this lady at work does :ohwell: Ghetto Cabbage Patch Kid) but you never can outgrow nice, chic hair accessories.

Girl, no!!! Half the reason I'm growing hair is so that I can rock the hair toys!!! :lachen::lachen:I'm 31 as well, and I'm starting my collection, finally.

As someone else said, as long as they are age-appropriate, they are fine! Folx can be so narrow minded, sometimes.

OMG! lol...

lol @ hair candy! My favorites are the little flowers made with round flat abalone shells and a pearl in the middle on little clips. I part my hair down the middle and have two bantu knots secured with my hair candy! (lol ya know I had to use it!!!)

Kind of line this minus the stem

Who cares about what other people think??? It's YOUR hair!!!! Do what makes you happy!

My first thought when I saw this post was, "I hope she ain't trying to rock click clacks" :ohwell:. I think other than that, anything goes. I'm so tired of my bone straight wrap I'm thinking about shaving my whole damned head. Sick to death of only having 2 "acceptable" black adult hair styles.:wallbash:

(I'm done at the bolded though, too funny.)

:lachen:I'm gonna have to go incognegro and sneak a pic of her on my phone. On any given day it's an adventure. Who still wears crushed velvet? SHE DOES-in the summer!

Girl, STOP!!! :lachen: :lachen:

See, I almost kinda miss coworkers like that.

I personally wouldnt wear these type of things

But (Probally without the diamonds)

And chopsticks and claw clips, banana clips....

Well they would talk all kinds of **** about me cuz I wear some of the same beads I put in my DD's hair. And what??

I can care less about what anybody says.

Is that a result of being 30?

I luv me some hurr jewelry.:yep:

ETA: It goes without sayin I ain't talkin bout balls and barretts my 6yr old dd wears.

I'm 31 too...And I love hair accessories ....Of course I wouldn't wear the same as my nieces in Jr High... I love flowers...And there is so many different kinds of clips and hair pins to chose from

I would look sideways at a grown woman in pink barrettes at the end of her ponytail or knockers tied around the base.

A grown woman would look ridculous to me walking around with colors like a 3-year-old at the playground up in her hair. Barrettes swanging and clicking is a no-no to me.

People just love coming up with arbitrary rules for other folks. As long as you aren't rocking click clacks, I don't see an issue. I love me some hair sticks and I like bejeweled barrettes like those fluffylocks posted.

It's all in the presentation.

Shoot I didnt know :lachen:All other barrets and hair toys/jewerly are clearly for all ages to me so i dont know why anyone would say anyone was too old LOL, didnt know if the OP was reffering to those type of barrets or not

I love hair accesories. Once I stopped relaxing I started wearing all kinds of head bands and clips to hold my hair. I especially love flowers in my hair and I think they are age appropriate. I also put cowrie shells on my twists sometimes. In my siggy there is a flower in my fro-puff, you can hardly see it in the pic though. I think it can jazz up an otherwise simple/boring hairstyle. Now I agree the barrettes and click clacks are a don't.

Uh...I don't think da OP was talking bout a pack of balls or barretts you get from the BSS for 99 cents.:look:
