OH okay, thanks you guys. Those look great Mwedzi. And you LynnieB. *smh* making everyone jealous. You know you ain't right.

I've gotta be the postergirl for a dense head cuz Good Lord...
I find that its all about the middle. Simply brushing the hair back doesnt work, because if the middle of your hair is bundled up and not brushed out, you'll have a ponytail with a hump in it. My hair is longer now, but when it was shorter, I would do a small dinosaur hump with hair that didn't catch in the poinytail, but you could always cover up the strays with a headband.

I've also found that wet hair behaves better when trying to create a pony too- so you may want to try doing them on wet hair only. I co-wash basically everyday, so my hair is always wet.

Gotta get a Denman. I have a D5. The paddle brush with bristles is MURDER to your hair. You can literally hear your hair snapping and popping cuz these are very unforgiving. Some curly pudding and the denman really worked for getting my hair down. Plus those boar brushes make your hair fuzzy- not a good look when you're trying to create the pony.

Find cute ways to use the hair that won't catch, twist it, bobby pin it, etc.

When I do a ponytail, I normally do one of these....

I gave up on ponytails a long time ago. For me, trying to do ponytails = a lot of frustration, popped ponytail holders and gunked up hair. If I DO get it in a ponytail, I end up with a headache - and that's only with one "doubling over"...and I don't want to talk about the sore arms and tension on my hair line.

My head also looks HUMONGOUS when I do a ponyail. So, they are a no-no for me. I remember last summer, when my hair was shoulder length, me telling someone I couldn't do a ponytail. And they just couldn't believe it, and they suggested doing it under the shower, using the water pressure to help, etc., etc. When your hair is super dense, I'm talking "bicep work out from the gathering of the hair" dense, that ish just doesn't work.

Ti-chéri its all il in brush! I have a twa / Ba and in order for me to put it in a ponytail if I dont have my brush it just wont work. All my family in Morocco use it its just a brush that my grand ma told me to stick with it and thru all the ups and downs I had I always used it and dont have to complain at all about it. It just clumps my curls together and eases the process of doing a ponytail. When im in the shower I apply conditionner fingercomb....than I rinse once im out of the shower I apply a leave in if I feel like it and use my IC fantasia aloe vera gel and brush . Once my hair is pulled back I tie it but on a scarf for few minutes...than I remove the scarf and Im good to go!

P.S Im having a hard time to post a pic of the brush on the board I added a pic in my album that is exactly the same as what I use under my product folder. The best part of it ITS CHEAP AS HELL!!!!!!!!

Has it taken you longer to do a ponytail than someone with less hair? I think it has been a year since my last relaxer and I still can't put my hair into a ponytail. I have about 5 1/2 - 6 inches of hair which puts me right at the average (I should have more but my little snip snip after the BC really put me back).

What are you using to put your hair into a ponytail?
How do you get the hair to lay flat?
How do you stop it from curling up?

TIA

Merci

Have you tried using the denman to smooth it back? You have to brush (or comb) through it in sections to get the middle flat.

I recently started using knee highs for my ponytails. Idk why I was sleeping on them for so long. My hair is WAYYY too thick to even try to use the elastic pony tail holders . (I tried, even the ones for thick hair...lol.) When I was using the elastics, my hair would always be poof in the front. (Not to mention me getting an arm workout trying to pull all of my hair through the pony tail holder...lol.) The knee high's are way better, they last a long time, and they are pretty cheap. I pull my hair back and wrap it around the ponytail about 5 or 6 times until the pony tail feels secure. Then I tie the two ends of the knee together. It stays put, does not slip out at all.
