Can/should you brush your hair while wet? I'd like to do wet buns but this means that I have to brush my hair while soaking wet? I've heard that this is a no-no, but other's have recommended wet bunning. I can't not use a brush, my hair is broken off in too many layers and I need to brush to get it layed flaterplexed

These days I brush my hair when it is dry or slightly damp from my leave in spray with a Denman D3 brush; then co-wash, I don't rub up my scalp I just push the conditioner through the hair whilst leaning back, then I rinse still maintaining the flat position of the hair, apply oil and then pull it back into a band while wet, then I squeeze out the excess water from the ends and blot the top part of my hair the clip on my phoney pony.

It slowly dries throughout the day but the ends are still damp so when I come I take the phoney pony out and let it dry out, then I may brush it again when moisturising before I go to bed.

I also use a natural brush just to tidy my edges when it's styled, I just add a bit of oil or something.

if you are going to do that i would only comb it when the hair is loaded up with conditioner. your hair is much to fragile to be runnin a brush through it. thats askin for breakage.

The only way I brush my hair is wet and soaked in conditioner - I use my Denman as my final 'detangling step', and I take small sections, and brush through them gently.

I think that if you handle your hair gently, and aren't rough with it, and make sure that it is 99% detangled ALREADY, so that you are more 'smoothing' the hair than 'stretching' the hair (which is the danger with wet hair), you can brush - but your mileage might vary.

However, as a substitute to make a smooth bun - have you tried just slicking your hair back, and then tying a scarf on it til it dries? That way, you have a smooth hairline and all the hair is held down smoothly, without the stress of brushing.

I use my denman like I would a comb. So in that case yes, I do brush while wet. As long as you take your time, it shouldn't be a big issue. Its when you're rushing throught i t that can leave some unwelcome consequences.

Since I comb/brush twice a week I can end up with a poodle in my brush

Actually I always brush my hair when it's wet and only then. But I specifically use my Denman D3 brush and ONLY after I put in my leave-in, seal with oil, and put a little serum in my hair.... Lots of sheds come out, I take my time, I usually start with a wide tooth comb and then move to the Denman... My hair seems to be fine and happy.

yeah when I brush its the final step to smooth it out top and front but its already loaded

Me too perplexed It scares me tho. One of these days I am going to start a thread and ask if <insert pic here> amount of hair loss is normal .... I don't notice any loss of thickness, but still :/

I wet bun everyday and I only brush my hair flat AFTER it's in the bun. I use 100% boar bristles and it lays my hair nice and flat. I don't brush THROUGH my hair, just to slick it down on the top. I have pics in my fotki of a wet bun after I used my brush to slick it flat.

I use a 100% boar bristle brush, too; it's very soft........I wet the brush then brush my edges with it, apply shea butter and fantasia gel, then brush my edges some more. I wear a scarf to sleep so I don't have to brush everyday. Maybe every two days.
