I think I am - I'll have to wait for a hair to shed to find out, for sure.
LOL i've done this before! you know when people tell a "sob story" and someone pretends to play a violin? i did this to someone once with a strand of hair![]()

SERIOUSLY?! I about died laughing reading that!![]()
lawd gurl u always have me dyin! u so crazy!
LIKE TOUGH THREAD!It was not easy to break my strand! I had to wrap it around fingers on both hands. And when it finally SNAPPED it left an imprint where I'd wrapped it around my finger.Steel strands
^^^sorry i re-read your post... i can't read today...
my hair stretches, and when it breaks it SNAPS. so i guess it's healthy! LOL
when it got mushy a while ago though, it would stretch and just kinda break without snapping... i knew i needed to up my protein treatments.![]()
the loud snap indicates the strength of your hairWow, I can't believe I've been going around thinking what I was thinking
I thought that if you hear it 'snap' quickly or without stretching a lil' bit, that THAT meant it was too brittle and might need more moisture. I didn't know that the need for protein was b/c of the lack of 'snapping.' So breakage with no 'snap' is not good. Breakage with 'snap' is better/OK/good. How far do we wanted to stretch?
But what about people who have that tiny white bubble in mid shaft (some other kind of damage) and when it breaks you can hear the 'snap.' I know that THAT's not good either. Which makes me wonder if the 'snapping' sound is really a good test?

think of like a thread, a flimsy thread will not snap just rip apart, a strong thread will snap when you break it
there is no way to say how much it should stretch, but very weak hair will stretch further and then do a very weak break
strong hair does not stretch far, just slightly then snaps
So when I hear a strong snap, just keep doing what I'm doing I guess....Besides the 'mush' factor and weak snap, breakage (small hairs around), are there any other reasons one would use protein?

i think i heard somewhere that healthy hair can stretch up to 50% before breaking (please someone correct me if i'm wrong).
you're right about the bolded. if it snaps and you barely stretched it, it needs moisture. if it stretches, then snaps, it's healthy. if it stretches and never snaps, just kinda gets pulled apart, it needs protein.
i used to get those white bubbles with my relaxed hair, but i could easily break my hair at the bubble - it just kinda fell apart with a slight snap. definite moisture deficiency and i always assumed it was heat damage.![]()
Of course I learn this little trick on the one day my hair isn't shedding at all. Now I can't wait for one to fall out so I can conduct the test![]()
ok my information is only coming from my hair so I suppose this could vary
my weak relaxed hair stretched more and then broke
my natural hair doesnt stretch like that, just slightly then snaps loud
(whispering) Does snapping while your picking your hair count?erplexed If so, OH SNAP!! If not, I'll have to do something about that.
but when your relaxed hair broke, it was little to no snap, right? that's what my hair was doing when it needed protein... it was like rubber-band stretchy when DRY.erplexed

Can someone answer this for me?
I did find a strand long enough and it snapped. Unless that was my knuckle...lol
For those who can play the violin (or other string instruments) and get hair cuts on their hands...WOW.
Here I am trying to pull my few little inches...but yeah it snapped!![]()
yeah my hair doesnt do all that , it snaps loud though
no you dont want to be combing/picking your hair and hear any snapping
yes that means your hair is strong, but it also means your snapping it off, you dont wanna do that
I think it does, but it's still a kinda bad thing - that snap means you are breaking off your hair, and that's never a good thing.![]()
LMAO thats too funny! My hair snapped
I went and pulled a hair from dh and dd's heads to test them too, they were lookin like![]()
