I know, right? We tend to do that, huh?

Thanks, girl. Lovin' your hair too. It's getting so long. As for me, I am planning to transition until September, then comes the choppity chop chop. I ain't scurred ... well ... kinda. :perplexed

I love them! The 1st is my favorite. I love her 'fro, I hope to have mine like that in a year. Thank you for sharing! I'm giving this thread 5 stars!

They are soooo beautiful! I like them all.

And they don't seem ghetto to me; it seems traditional and African.

I love all 3 of these and I was still collecting I would have them! :yep:

I collected black Barbies for a little while. I have some beautiful one's in storage (no room to display at home). The Byron Lars are my faves.
Hmmm, I should try and make room for them. They are beautiful.

I'm going to edit this post if I can with pics of the ones I have.

My daughter's not even here yet and I want to start a collection of these for her. It's about gd time Mattel got some real "black" barbies- I love em.

My mom started collecting these dolls when i was younger. I have 3 of them and are displayed inside a glass case.

Mattel got together with designer BYRON LARS to create this collection of Barbie dolls.

I love his work. These dolls are not from the cookie cutter white barbie counterpart. He said his dolls were meant to have distinctive black features, such as the nose, eyes, body, look at her wider hips, etc.

These dolls are absolutely HOT indeed! But I'm not feeling that one in the purple coat though, those holes (curls) reminds me of that Honeycomb cereal. Maybe if it wasn't so high, it just might work. But #1 with that FIERRRRRRRRRCE FRO gets my majority vote!

This is how I felt about it too, Well, I guess I do feel that the one in the Purple coat is very ghetto Hair show-ish but that is part of our culture too.

I'm not a doll person either. My Mother-in law is but when I saw these I just thought they were stunning.

I really love the representation of the braided African molded/sculpted braids. Not that I'd wear my hair like that or that I wouldn't give someone the "small eye" look if I saw that hairstyle in the local Wal Mart on a real person.

But on a Doll I find is very beautiful & unique as a whole. Hair , Face & Attire.

If you put that same hairstyle of a regular off the shelf Barbi wearing a poka-dot dress....:nono: Awwwww Hekka-No!

How beautiful is that! I wish I had one of these when I was a little girl.

I wish they would make all black Barbies like this. At least with these features ( or the choice of features) I was a Barbie collector too. I really like these.

I like the first one. Mr. Lars can keep the other three.

The Byron Lars dolls were introduced in the early 90s; so though many people are knocking them now, they were the ish when they came out and many collectors (including myself) loved them. I still do.

I used to love Barbies and these Barbies are gorgeous. If I had the money, my 21 year old self would purchase a couple just to sit on my dresser. I would love to get one for a little cousin of mine, but I don't know how I feel about paying $200.

No, that wouldn't be a good idea:nono: unless the doll can be put up for her or displayed for her out of reach. I just buy my niece the Barbies that cost no more than $20 or so. It would also depend on the age of the child.

Little girls like to do hair on dolls and I can see these collectibles being ruint! :lachen:

I love these! I'm not a Barbie collector, but these may cause me to become one.

I love the one in the purple coat and ther one in the black & white...gorgeous! Bravo!

Agreed! Mine are in a glass case and will stay that way. These dolls actually lose value once you take them out of the box/original packaging.

I have some holiday barbies that are still inside the box. They are deemed nearly worthless if touched.

It's nice to see that they actually have ethnic features and aren't just "painted brown" white Barbies.
