to go to beauty school? I'm 31. I relocated and I'm having a hard time finding a decent job. I'm currently taking classes toward a Bachelor's, but it's taking so long. I've enjoyed doing hair since I was a pre-teen and I consider myself pretty good at it. I actually had a close friend of the family offer to pay my tuition for Dudley's Beauty College when I was 18 but turned it down. I'm seriously contemplating it, but I keep thinking "how long would my career last?" I just don't see myself at 60 still doing hair. Attending FT takes about 10 months while PT is 15 months.(I would be going to a local school.)

IDK if it's a good idea or not, any advice or suggestions?

TIA

I don't think you're too old to do anything you put your mind to. I think if you have talent (and I'm sure you do if someone offered to put you through school before) then you should go for it. Even if you decide it's not for you, at least you went for it.

I've liked doing hair since I was younger too, but only my own. :lachen:

I think you should go for it.

Let us know what you decide.

Good luck!

If that is your passion then you should go for it.

We will be right here when you think you can't do it! :yep:

If HRC can run for president at age 60 then you can do this at 31.

I say go for it. I went to nail school and I went to college. Hair is a great skill to have. Plus when you get your bachelor's it can only help you in your hair career (ex:open up and manage a successful business, etc) or hair could be your backup plan or side job. I'm a teacher now and know another teacher who does hair on the weekend.

First of all, NO, you're not too old to go to beauty school. I'm 33 years old and I'm on my way to becoming a nurse. Well, ummm, I'm taking 2 of my pre-req's classes this summer. Anywho, I never thought for once, I was too old because 1) I don't look it and most importantly I don't feel it. Age is just a number baby! If that is what you want to do, I say GO FOR IT! but don't forget that Bachelor's degree in the process. I'm 7 classes away of getting my Bachelor's and decided I want to be a nurse, so I'm putting that degree on hold for a sec but once I'm a nurse believe you, me, I'm coming back to snatch that degree up. You can do hair on the side! and STOP asking is 31 too old. Girl, 30 is the new 20!:yep:

I know! I think I'm offended... j/k ;-)

Even if it was 4 years... in 4 years you could be realizing a dream or still dreaming. Go for it!

it's better to try at 31 than to say, "i shoulda tried..." at 91.

i dropped out of college and didn't go back until i was 24. i might not graduate until i'm 31. but at least i will have graduated. :yep:

I'm 29 and Im planning on going to cosmetology school. I went when I was in high school, then went to college and got my B.S. degree in criminal justice and a B.A. in english, now I'm going back again!:spinning: Im planning on going to Empire Beauty school, its about 20k and 24months for part-time students! But I gotta follow my dreams!:yep:

I say go for it, we can be study buddies!!

No girlie, you are nowhere near OLD!! I made 30 in January and I too am 7 classes away from my Bachelors in Business Administration. I'll probably do some type of Master's from there for a year or so. So go for it and do you!! As fast as time passes, you'll be done before you know it with no regrets.

Girl, please... I'm 4 years older than you and I don't think I'm too old for Beauty School. Ten years ago, I studied Nail Technology and our oldest and best student was in her 60's! Also, remember... if a 90 year old lady can earn her college degree, then you have no reason to believe that you are too old.

Heck no it's not too late! The thing you need to do is make yourself a plan so you know how you'll be "owning and managing" a successful salon by 60 and not working in one! It's kind of a Steven Covey sort of thing. Think with the end in mind and you'll get there. If this is what interests you, go for it. I'm almost 40 and getting into Graphic Art, like I've always wanted to. I knew of a lady that went back to school for nursing at 50. Never too late if it's something you love. Go for it!

I'm also 31 and I've been considering doing the same thing. Shoot, it seems like I should have done it a long time ago but so far this Graphic Design thing has worked out pretty well for me.

No...We ain't too old! Not Even!

Girl - I am 40 Getting my Bachelors on Wednesday.....

...Going to Grad school in the Fall - I will be 46 when I get myPhD - hopefully....

Do your thang girl....Don't put it off!

I believe that no one is ever too old for any type of education.

There is a 53 year old woman in my law school and I ain't mad at her, she didn't have the money to go to college when she was younger b/c of her kids. So when they got older, she went to college....that is inpiring!

So no, you are not too old:grin:

Now you know you need you but beat for even thining that 31 was old :spank: and you are never ever ever too old to follow your dreams.
Go for it girl !!!

You're never too old for living and learning!
Never!

I'm going to start new projects/ventures forever :yep:

31 is sooooo young. If you only knew :D

Girl please! You are not old!!

I am 32 and changing professions myself. Honestly as we get older it seems that it is only natural to really want to do what makes you happy and not deal with the boring grind!

Go for it!!
