I hear from some that Apple Cider Vingear can remove cones? Is this true? Or are sulfates the only thing that can remove cones?

yes, clarifying shampoo. or chelating....ACV will remove residue but cannot remove ALL cones. Thats why i dont bother with it.

Do clarifying and chelating shampoos use sulfates though?

Lys

Most do. I try to steer clear from sulfates on a regular basis. I mostly just co-wash my hair. But every month or so I sometimes clarify my hair with a shampoo that has sulfates in it. Sulfates are a harsh detergent, but detergents are good for cutting through caked on things.

ACV will not remove cones, and it's a light buildup remover - but it's a great finisher/final rinse for smoother shiner hair.
Baking Soda will remove most cones, and most buildup.
Sulfates will strip everything except mineral residue.
Chelators will strip mineral residue, and if it contains sulfates, it will strip cones/buildup as well.

HTH!
