When you twist your hair (indivudal twists) are you adding some type of cream, conditioner, pastes, etc. to make the twist stay a long time and not come down and what do you put on the scalp/hair weekly to keep them up and fresh? (did i ask this right?)

:yep: It made sense.

I use the same thing to 'freshen' them up that I initially used to twist them - no need for additional products. I give myself twice weekly scalp massages using either amla oil or a growth aid, and I'll retwist any particularily fuzzy/puffy ones then.

So you wash and do your regular conditioning regimen and then twist it with nothing added extra on them to hold the twist?

I personally don't add anything at all to my hair. I twist w/o products and the pen spring spiral shape of my hair just seems to keep the twists in place coz the strands just wrap around each other. I usually CW (condition wash) with my hair in twists and if they unravel--usually just a few will--I retwist but don't have to do anything more.

You can get an idea of how the ends would stay if you look at them closely:

Another close-up of the ends of my twists; I think I'd just CWed them below and was airdrying. I love to let them drip-dry so they can hang down straight.

I always use some butter or homemade concotion to twist my hair....
Of course - everyone's hair is different and responds differently. My hair Wont stay twisted with out some product.

Well, I truly thank you. Now I know what to do with my child's hair during her going natural process.

I used to twist with a gel (Fantasia Frizzbusters).

I have worn them so much, that my hair is now trained to just stay in the twist until I take it out...so I just wash, condition and add a leave-in and twist with no additional gels.

To freshen them or fluff them up after sleeping, I lightly wet them add some ORS Olive Oil.

I can't go past 2 weeks anymore in twists or they really become meshed and tangled (starting the loc process):look::grin:...

I use Oyin's Whipped Pudding, most of the time - I like how 'loose' it leaves my twists. I used to use ORS loc gel, but I didn't like the slightly greasy feeling it left on my hair.
I'll twist my hair on Sunday, massage my scalp/retwist without anything on Wednesday, wash/condition it the next Sunday, still in twists. Retwist any (with more WP) that have come loose, and then take them down the next weekend and repeat the whole process.

I use Carols Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey mixed with her Healthy Hair Butter to twist.

I use some type of oil on my scalp every other day....castor, jojoba, sweet almond, coconut, eo's... something....LOL

Hope that helps!!

It depends on how I want my twist-outs to look. I sometimes add Kemi-Oyl pomade to have well defined twist-outs (I only wear twists for a few days at a time. I never try to refresh mine because it becomes a tangled mess. My hair is very attracted to itself.)

I don't use the pomade to make my twists stay, my hair stays twisted and braided on it's own. The pomade also helps it not to lock up if I do try to wear the my twists for a week or more.

I go back and forth with this.... but recently I have been using curlsbysisterssmith.com wet pudding, and a little of their butter... Leaves my hair soft

Yes, after washing and conditioning, I airdry in plaits. Once dry, I will undo each one and carefully part the sizes of twist I want and twist the hair with nothing on it. Once twisted, I then CW or just dunk my head in a solution of apple cider vinegar and essential oils in lukewarm water, and let my hair drip-dry onto a towel draped across my shoulders. That's it. I wash my hair about twice a week (whether w/ shampoo or just conditioner) and I do it with my hair in twists. Actually, once the twists are in, I never wash my hair out of them. I always wash it in them and condition in them. Shampoo and conditioner are the only products I use on my hair when in twists. I retwist them up one at a time as needed.

At least that's what I did when I was wearing twists. I'm in extensions braids now.

Well, you might not want my advice because my twists are always frizzy. But they have no problem staying together. I don't need to add anything to keep them together, and not really to freshen them up. But if I want to add something mid-week, I'll spray with my Oyin Juices and Berries, or just let the steam from the shower plump them up.

In the winter time, I use shea butter for the moisture and for the summer I may use aloe vera or the black protein gel to twist. It last for 1 week 1/2 and i spray it with distilled water, peppermint oil, and rosemary to freshen up and use some type of oil to do my scalp massages.

WOW, THANKS LAIDES FOR ALL OF YOUR REPLIES, I HAVE TAKEN NOTES AND LOOKED AT YOUR PICTURES. I DO APPRECIATE ALL OF THE INPUT.

Well what I like to do is keep my hair moist and twist with a butter or shea. This for me seems to seal in moisture. For example, I keep my misting spray bottle with me. I spritz each section first. Next I apply jojoba oil to my scalp and with my fingers continue to work the oil down my damp hair. Now I take a tiny bit of straight shea butter or my whipped butter (oyin or homemade) and apply that to the hair itself and twist. I find that I don't get buildup on my scalp this way,my hair stays non greasy and soft. Plus I keep my twists in for about a month or so at a time. I condish wash weekly, and usually by the 3rd week although they still look good to me, the roots might start to try and tangle, so I just redo the twists with the roots that are funky. Does that make any sense? I mean if you really wanna keep the twists looking fresh no matter what, Let's Jam is the thing that I found works for that. HOWEVER I found that I DEFINITELY have to clarify more often with that stuff since it's mineral oil based, and it does dry out my hair over time. I havent' used that stuff in years, but it did keep my hair looking freshly done. Nowadays I kinda like it when my hair looks frizzy, nappy. I think that it give it character, but I know that look isn't for everyone :)

I use this twist and loc gel that comes in a white tub with a purple top. A little goes a long way and my twists hold even after I wash them and I don't reapply the gel. Q

I use Shealoe. Twists turn out perfectly. If scalp gets dry - coconut oil, hempseed butter, whatever is lying around within arm's reach.

I twist my hair with ORS Loc and Twist Gel...I put a little bit of moisturizer on them every other day and I lightly spray them with a leave in conditioner every morning.

I put QB Heavy Cream on all of my hair first. Then I twist. Most of the time I don't add any more HC to my hair as I twist. Each night I moisturize with more HC before bed.

I finally did twists that I actually wore outside the home last week, I used Homemade Jojoba Oil gel and hey held up nicely. One week later I still have them. Tomorrow, I will cowash them and probably unravel and retwist which shouldn't take long because I'm going to use the same parts I have in my hair.

Honeycomb I am going to try your gel!:yep:

Here in my regime:

1. Pre-poo
2. Plait hair w/ pre-poo (about 10 plaits)
3. Wash out pre-poo from plaits
4. Shampoo w/ CD Rosemary Mint mixed w/baking soda
5. Apply DC to plaits and sit under dryer for about 30m-1hr
6. Rinse out DC from plaits.
7. Wrap hair w/ a white tee until damp.
8. Take 1 plait and undo. Apply shealoe concoction to scalp and hair. Then start to twist, clipping the loose portion of hair. 1 plait tends to make about 4-5 twist for me. I don't do them 2 small, but a little smaller than medium size.
9. I continue this process until my entire head is 2 strand twisted.
10. I then apply a little coconut-castor oil to seal.

At night, I moisturize w/ shealoe concoction and pull into a loose ponytail. I then cover w/a satin-baggy cap. In the morning, I remove the ponytail, moisturize w/my glycerin water mix, shake, take a shower, make sure some steam hits my hair, and go....

This last about 7-10days.
