Ladies help me out......Organix proudly says they use no sulfates. I just picked up the BOGO Teatree mint poo and conditioner from Rite Aid- thanks for the tip Eisani. On the poo, the disodium laureth sulfoscinnate was the 2nd ingredient. I know that it is a surfactant - not sure why it is not a sulfate though. I just want a good non sulfate poo- is that too much to ask....:ohwell: Here is what I found out on google:

it's point #6

Well, they didn't necessarily lie. They don't have any sulfates in them. But they never said any thing about surfactants. LOL. I say just use the conditioner and stick with whatever sulfate-free poo you use. Mine is Elucence. :yep:

See that's what I'm talking about Inner Soul, I'm feeling like I've been misled-but not sure:spinning:.

Your right filthy fresh, the safest bet is just stick with condish. So Elucence has no sulfates:look:???? Mind you I was allset until CON decided to switch things up, so as to not rely on CON I decided I would be bold and find another moisturizing sulfate free poo.

Wait a minute, I just read the bottle...It does have a sulfate! Oh my God I have been led astray! Oh well, my hair likes it. LMAO.

ETA: Turns out that the sulfate I found is relatively harmless.

maybe someone with a chemistry background can explain it better than i can. all sulfates are surfactants but not all surfactants are sulfates. a surfactant is a cleansing agents and there are different types of surfactants with varying strengths. Sodium lauryl Sulfate and Disodium Laureth Sulfosccinate are both anionic surfactants with similar structures but they are not one in the same. Disodium Laureth Sulfosccinate is considered more gentle than sodium lauryl sulfate because its molecules are larger and does not have the ability to penetrate the cortex.

The simple answer is sulfate and Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate ( what you are referring to) are not the same compound. A sulfate(SO4) is a sulfate . Not trying to be smart but in chemistry the name is very important and is descriptive of its structural quality,so the presence of sulphur and the -ate does not necesarily mean sulfate.HTH
