My sister has just found out that she has a ringworm in her head and she thinks that there is more than one. What can she use on it?

BTW, she has already bleached the combs and brushes. She has also wash all of her head wraps and linen.

I think mn (straight from the tube) would get rid of a ringworm because it's an antifungal cream

MN should really help.

Another good idea, maybe a little bit drying, but buy some betadine solution from the store (that black stuff doctors use to scrub). It's anit-bacterial/anti-fungal.

Oil of Oregano or coconut oil--both can be found at health store. Oil of oregano stinks but soothes and is antifungal and you don't need much but a few drops massaged into the area. Coconut oil is antifungal too. Actually even more effective is coconut oil with a capsule of caprylic acid (also from a health store) mixed in to make a paste. (Caprylic acid is an antifungal agent from coconuts but if you make the paste, it's more potent.)

But if she isn't around mold or didn't catch it from someone else, I always think it might be systemic so cutting back on sugar, white flour, dairy...and upping her garlic intake (foodwise or supplements) and starting on probiotics (acidophilus) might be a good idea.

But natural remedies take long, so if she isn't too fussy about being all natural, MN might work faster.

The only way to get rid of scalp ringworm is via internal medicine. Ask your physcian about Grisofluvin (pills or liquid). My (now 13) son had ringworm in pre-school and it lasted for MONTHS because we were only treating it topically with OTC meds. HTH

She is going to the doctor, but she is looking for something that will help sooth her scalp now. It is itching like crazy. She had my mama look at it and that is how she found out that it was a ringworm. He youngest son had it, so she knows that this is where it has come from.

Once again, thank you all for helping out with this situation. I appreciate all of the responses :yep:.

Tea tree oil is great for any type of fungal infection

Many internal fungal medicines are highly toxic and bad for the liver. Ask her to try applying tea tree oil with cotton buds 2-3 times a day for a week or two first to see the difference before trying the prescribed medicines.

I had a strange looking rash on my shoulder - my doctor told me it was fungal, I was prescribed internal medicines but I didn't take them...I used tea tree oil twice a day and it went completely in a little over a week and has not returned

Also....I got athletes foot from school many many years ago. I treated it with topical medicines which would would work but it'd always come back at least once a year. I used pure tea tree oil twice a day for a few weeks (applied it with cotton balls), it disappeared completely and this is my 2nd year without a re-infection.

my DD has a permanent bald spot because I tried topical stuff too long...

Dr prescribed Nizoral which was too strong and burned her scalp.... wasnt until I got Grisofluvin that she was healed

My SO got ringworm on his chin once from the barbershop. The Lotrimin label says it cannot be used on the face or scalp (not sure why). He went to the doctor and they prescribed him Ketaconazole. It went away within a week.

Cosigning on the tea tree oil.

Peroxide will kill. Put it on a cotton ball and it will be gone.
So sorry that she is going through this.

My son has had ringworm before and my friend told me to get a q-tip with a little bit of bleach and put it on the ringworm. By the next day his is always dried up. HTH

Tea tree oil will definitely work, but you have to be disciplined and apply it at least twice a day.. You'll know its working when the affected area begins to dry up and perhaps scab. Keep applying until the skin has the same consistency as the other skin that is not affected.

I should know, because I had ringworm once at the tea tree oil cured it.

Yes a shampoo with Ketaconazole (aka Nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo). Try neem oil/powder to. Man the smell alone would kill it. When i had a ringworm panic (my auntie n cousins had it and i basically live at her ouse). I used Nizoral shampoo and MN everyday. Once i got the neem powder i turned it into a paste and applied it to my scalp...There are also threads about neem oil/powder and how it cures ringworm on all parts of the body. You could google it as well.

HTH

Okay Ladies, I have given her all of the suggestions you all have offered. I also told her she needs to join herself :yep:.

She is going to the doctor tomorrow and taking her son too. She was running out to the store and I haven't heard from her yet.

I want to say thanks again for running to my family's rescue.
