Hey ladies!!!

The economy - Especially here in Californina - is just crazy....
I have started doing my own pedicures - and I am always thinking of ways to do my own hair, nails, etc for special occasians.....

My PJism is WAY WAY down.....

I have been doing my hair for a long time now - But even when I think of getting my hair braided - I re-think because it is so expensive.....

So what about you ladies??? Do you mind sharing?????

I've def cut out some miscellaneous spending (starbucks, accessories, etc).

But I still need to see my ladies at the nail salon. I don't wear fake nails but I have yet to master the art of grooming my nails myself. And my toes...well I def need professional services, esp after hiding my feet all winter long :look:

As for hair, I'm a recent DIY but not really because of the economy. I'm the most gentle with my hair than anyone else. I've found even going to salons that "specialize" in natural hair, these stylists don't even know how to comb my hair. So I'm doing my hair myself.

I'd be willing to spend some money on a stylist that actually knew what she was doing with my natural hair. I've yet to find one. :nono:

OMG, it cost me 43.00 to fill the tank of my Nissan Sentra yesterday! I had planned on putting 35 in my tank and taking the other 15 to Sallys and picking up a pack of plastic caps and another bottle of moisturizer...Guess again!

I used to be able to get my nails and toes done every two weeks, not anymore though. I just bought myself a ped egg and some cute colored polishes and now i'm doing it myself all around now!

so ummm yeah my spending is starting to slow way down....

I have to get my nails down bi-weekly....BUT i do my own pedi, i have my own foot bath and i just bought the ped-egg as well...if only i feel like treating myself i'll splurge and get a prof pedi....
i'm still working on the pjism....i've looked over my inventory and see that i have enough of just about everything that should last me for a while now...you see should is the key word...LOL!!
$43 for gas...girl be glad i planned on spending $50 and wound up paying $60!!!!but there's really no need of complaining it's not gonna change we keep buying it as it is..... i have to buy gas and if i only have $20 to put in.. i just have $20. i just can't get on public transportation i don't like being on others time schedule....

I'm still a huge product junkie...

I started buying all my books used, I don't frequent starbucks anymore and I do my own hair. I still get mani and pedis but I go less frequently. I just try to maintain the polish myself for the rest of the month b/c gas prices are kicking my butt:wallbash::wallbash:

one more thing if forgot to add...
i've been doing my own hair for the past 2yrs only because my beautician
was unstable with her shops and then it was just expensive...$85 for a relaxer is outrageous when i can get a kit for $8 have my mother do my hair and have it look just as good as if i did go to the shop...AND it's gotten more healthier being away from the shop with all the constant manipulation..

My stash is quite low but I am not dropping dollars at my BSS as much as I use to do...I just get one prouct line and one suave and a couple of oils.

I do need to get to a salon for a dusting...

well i've never been to the nail salon before in life... i don't need anyone to wax my brows because they are very thin, and i'm a DIY-er because i'm a very broke college student. bump the economy.

I put in my own braid extensions because I figure ... if I can do an alright job on my own, why pay $200+ for someone else to do it for me. The plus-side to having a professional braid my hair is that they are faster and neater. However, with as many times a year as I like to braid my hair -- I'd be throwing money down the drain.:nono:

ETA: My PJ-ism is also way down. I'm aiming for just 4-5 staple products.

I use baking soda for everything. Hair, teeth, exfoliant, carpet freshener, and deodorant(on the weekends, hehe).

I do my own nails and my nail polishes cost 98 cents.

I've only been getting my hair done for job interviews.

I'm in a good position financially, as I have very low expenses and no debt and I never had expensive tastes....I have always only gone to the salon once every 2 to 2 1/2 months anyway for a touch up and trim and I buy my own butters, oils and some other cheapie products. By keeping my hair regiman simple and basic, I've never really had to spend alot of money, although I did indulge on 3 soft bonnet dryers(2 vintage, 1 tourmaline from walmart that some lhcf'ers were raving about)..So I guess, for me the answer is no.:drunk:

Hi Sam! I'm not really doing anything different as far as cutting back. BUT...I have overstocked my cabinet because I fear a day will come when I won't have the money to buy what my hair needs! My cabinet looks like the fall out shelter for a woman with waist length hair. Bottles and bottles of glycerin, EVOO and coconut oil. Oh yeah and castor oil. I see the stuff in the store and think "do I have money on me...yeah, let me grab a bottle, you never know......" I need help!!!!!

I am a DIYer but I have been for a while now. Nothing has changed much due to the economy. My hair, manicures, and pedicures are all things I do myself anyway. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I did used to frequent Starbucks for tea. My hangup was that they didn't have the kind I wanted so now I buy my own tea ( MUCH cheaper) and Starbucks gives me a free cup of hot water and honey. So, I guess I've got my $5/week Starbucks habit down to about $1.50/week buying my own. :look:

I might need to stock up on hair stuff like naturalgurl...I actually had to go out and buy conditioner for my hair last weekend because I literally had NO deep conditioners. I was glad to see that, but it was a bit disturbing for a reformed PJ. :sekret:

I have definitely started doing my own pedicures and manicures because of the economy. It's actually worked out much better too because I can change my polishes as often as I like and it doesn't cost me anything!:yep:

As for my hair, I was already a DIY'er before the economy went down the tubes and before that I was only sporadically getting it done professionally. Now that things are tight it has only reinforced that my decision to become a DIY'er was a good one. But the main reason that I do my own hair is because no one is going to care for it like me. I spent all day yesterday on myself. First, Curlformers, then my nails. All of that would have easily been over $100 if I had gone to the salon.

It's such a liberating feeling to be able to do these things myself since I was brought up to be really dependent on salons.

I don't trust most stylists... I've been taking care of my own hair for awhile, so no matter what the economy looks like, I'm a DIYer.

I have been stocking up on my staples though. :look:

We spent 49.00 on our KIA!!!!!!

That was a coupleof days ago - Gas is 3.89 in Sheman Oaks, CA - 4.19 for the 92 octane.... lord.....:wallbash:

This is too cute and funny.:lachen:

If your cabinet looks like the fall out shelter for a woman with waist length hair then my closet must be for her little sister!

Been doing my own hair for a while now. Still have a bit to learn though :ohwell:

Bought the curlformers and treated my young, clueless cousins to some staple products but that will be it for a WHLE- $$$ is tight

I paid $72 for gas a few days ago to fill up our SUV. I am so tempted to trade it in for a hybrid.

I don't do my own mani/pedi's but I do go less frequently. I don't wear fake nails so it's easy to go without a manicure for a month or more with no problem. I have not been to a hair salon since September 2007 but I do still have my eyebrows threaded. Even that has gone up though. It was $6 for threading but now it's $7 plus tip.

I've found my staples so now I can cut down on my PJ ways.
But I started doing my own hair cause some healthy hair salons wanna charge 60 bones just for a deep condition and flat iron?!! I can do it on my own for free and have it just like I want it.
I even stopped getting my nails done too, I've been learning how to do acrylic sets on my own hands and I never trusted anyone with my feet soaking in those jet foot baths! Nasty! Plus gas is more important to me I need to be able to go get my supplies!
