So I got these things and had NO idea how to use them, lol. I first purchased the two largest sizes and gave up on them.... Then I purchased a pack of the smaller ones just to practice. Once DLewis put up her tutorial, I was SET! Thanks soooooooo much Dlewis, you ROCK.
So I wanted a little bit of a tight kind of set something very Corrinne Bailey Rae, lol... Here are my results! The first set I tried, I liked very much. I washed/DC this day. I used Aphogee 2 min Reconstructor mixed with Coconut Oil for a pre-poo 15 mins w/ heat. Then washed with All Ways Natural Moisturizing Poo, DC with Nexxus Humectress, applied Salerm 21 B12 and HE Long Term Relationship Leave-in. Then I made a setting lotion made of Lotta Body/Coconut Oil/A little bit of Herbal Essences Breaks Over Leave-in/Water. Sat under the dryer, and this is how it came out:
In the pics above I had set them and then separated some of the curls so that they have a fuller look. Some were a little more loose than others because I got bored sitting under the dryer so they were still a tad bit damp (not wet) when I was done and I just let them air dry and then went to bed. This is AFTER I woke up in the morning, so they held up pretty well and were VERY soft.
For my second wash day - I did the same sorta routine minus the DC. I like this result better, I'm starting to get a hang of it.
Here is the set with the rods in:
After they dried and I took them out. I then put a satin bonnet on and went to bed:
Morning result with hair candy:
In the morning I just fluff it up a little with some Herbal Essences leave-in. I was going to buy the curlformers, but Sally's in Brooklyn is AAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL the way in the boondocks, and the subway doesnt even go there....
I'd have to take the bus.... In my book that's way too far. Plus the hook thing looks like it will cause some kind of catastrophe in my hand.... TRUST ME IT WILL.... lol. So I'm really happy sticking with this. IT'S SOOOO QUICK and SIMPLE. And it doesnt take all day to dry.
I'm going to try the larger ones in place of roller setting to see how that turns out. I'm trying to do this minimal direct heat thing....
Although I love my flat iron, lol.
ETA: I am now 5 weeks post! And the NG is kicking in... These get my NG pretty straight.
