Yes, I have made up my mind. I am not sure if I will BC right away or wait. I need all the help I can get.
I went to a stylist last weekend and she did my relaxed hair very nice, but the hair in the back of my head is just way to damaged and I can not see it reviving anytime soon. (now I have to figure out what to do with my 3lb tub of relaxer):nono:
All you transitioner please help. I really hope that I can do this.
Thanks

Ditto! You can do it! I transitioned for about 5-6 months and then I did my BC.

Transition with an open mind and all should go well. I'd planned to transition for a year...but I read about hair breaking off so I just cut it off. lol

I don't have any advice, but just wanted to wish you the best of luck with transitioning :yep: This is something I'm considering.

You can do it girl!

There's tons of nappies on here. We'll support you!

:bighug:

@ NaijaNaps-I just looked at your fotki and I really like you're hair. :yep:The texture is inspiring. I've been transitioning since June 07 and I believe my texture is similar to yours and I'm glad to see that you are able to style it very well.

To the OP, good luck on the transition. I'm currently 9 months post with braids in. My hair was breaking off before the braids because I honestly haven't been showing it the attention it needs. There's tons of support here for you to not run into similar issues. Good luck!!

Congrats! :headspin: :bighug:

The first time I transitioned (even though then I didn't know what transistiong was) I just knew I didn't wan't to relax anymore lol. I just braided took it out wash and braided again.:ohwell: I never trimmed:ohwell: Just braided until there were no more relaxed ends. :drunk: The second time I transitioned for 4-5 Months (In braids again) and then spur of the moment Did a BC on My Bday:drunk: I didn't get all the relaxed ends off (because I had only a small amout of NG) so I couldn't see all the relaxed ends and ended up trimming all the time because relaxed ends were blended in and they would just pop of out of nowhere lol :nono:

Braids/twist/weaves are very good for transitoing. You won't have to manipulate your hair or get up In the morning to figure out what style to do with all your NG.:yep: Just wash once (using a sponge helps) or twice a week and moisturize daily using a spray bootle to get those ends while In braids. If you use products on your scalp then purchase an applicator bottle.:yep:

On the other hand, If you decide to go without extensions, your scarf, moisturizer, brush and perhaps head bands /srunchies are your Best friend:grin: They are neccesary for smoothing out NG. Castor Oil is great for slicking your hair down as well. Many people swear by Co washing for extra moisture for your NG.
You'll probably end up doing alot of Buns, braidouts, and pinup styles and using quick weaves while transitoning :yep:

IMO Its best to cut when you can actually see where the natual hair is stops so you won't have to keep trimming off unexpected relaxed ends like me:spinning: Just chop as you go along.

HTH, HHG:grin:

This is very helpful, thank you so much. I had a Britney moment and decided to cut off some of my hair. I think I will chop off more as I go along.

Although I didn't transition and went straight for the big chop, my journey with being natural has been very enjoyable. I've enjoyed every stage of my natural hair, even the stages when I was frustrated, because that made me even more determined to stay natural. I wish you the best in whatever your decision.

U can do it. I'm transitioning too. It's not easy, but I have to give myself at least 12 months.

It might help to find a buddy to transition with.

U can donate that perm to someone else or just throw it away if its going to be too tempting.

They are right, u can do it! and i gave up a HUGE tube of MIZANI relaxer - that sh*t is not cheap - lol. i told my stylist she could donate it to whomever she wished. If you change ur mind, you can do like some pple on the board have done - and just not relax the sensitive/super damaged parts of your hair. either way, we'll support ur decision.

Aww, thank you! I try to switch it up often while still doing low mani styles. It is possible. Good luck with your transition
