This weekend I removed my braids (after a 1 year stretch) and boy did I have a ton of work. I flatironed it and by this morning it was already kinked up.. I know I'll never go natural because all this naturalness I can't manage. I had intended to give myself a touchup right after removing the braids but I couldn’t tell where the new growth ends and the relaxed ends begins so I decided to flatiron. I've gained about 5/6 inches of natural hair and damn, to comb it is a mother. I'm going to give myself a touchup sometime this week because I can't see myself going around looking a hot mess all week long.. Well, all this to say that I'm going to be posting pictures in another couple of days/week, I'll let everyone know when my Fotki is ready...

Did you keep the same set of braids in for the entire year? Did you have breaks in between? Or did you change them and the style etc. I just want to see if it's possible. Did you get bored of them?

I know how overwhelming taking braids down can be. Especially with a lot of new growth. I chose to keep going natural. I love the fierceness and besides, when I was relaxed I had 50 strands of hair compared to the 1,000 I have natural! WOO HOO! Anyways, your hair looks really nice!

I'm anxious to see it.
It may help if you run a bath & use shampoo as the bubble bath. Get in lay on your back and submerge your hair. let it soak for a few minutes. then start to detangle while it is under water. add conditioners & whatnot.

This always helps all my naturalness and believe me...mine is thickumms!

I took no breaks and I redid the braids every 6 weeks or so. Yep, I started to get bored as the weather changed..

I know what you are saying but I just can't deal w/all this naturalness, it's just too much work. Right now I'm wearing a bun because it looks odd that the rest of my hair is kinky while my ends are straight.

What I'm a bit concerned about right now is how am I going to relax all this hair w/out missing sections and stuff... My plan is to apply a profectiv product on my relaxed ends, and especially where the new growth meets the relaxed portion and pray that it doesn't break off... I know if I choose to go to a beautician, the beautician would try to cut off my relax ends and call them dead hair, and ooops there goes my progress, but I know better than visit them.

Congrats on the good growth! I removed my braids yesterday but I'll probably get my hair braided back up this week. I was going to go for a 6 months stretch but since I read yor thread, I'm considering going for a year. I know relaxing a year's worth of NG may be overwhelming. If a stylist cutting your relaxed ends is a concern, can you ask a friend or family to help you relax?

Misseyl, I would like the password to your fotki please. I want to see your braid pics and progress. The password in your profiles does not work. The reason I wna to see your progress pics is because I am currently stretching and I am using braids to do it and I need all the encouragement I can get to keep these braids in. I want to do it the C&G way though.Thanks.
