I don't use oil/grease anymore, but I do oil my scalp with eo mixes. Since they're essential oils they penetrate instead of coat??
Is that what you meant?
Petroleum is synthetic. Olive and Castor Oils are natural. Synthetic oils coat the surface, a good reason why not to use them on your scalp. Silcones, Mineral Oil and Petroleum are all synthetic, so it's essential to be careful of these oils.
Oils like Jojoba protect the surface without clogging pores, while providing a healthy environment to grow hair. Many natural oils are good for this.
Honestly, using nothing at all on the scalp has helped me get the best progress. The problem is not needing a moisturized scalp; many problems start with a dry, brittle hair shaft and a clogged scalp. For me, keeping a clean scalp every day while nourishing the hair and ends has been beneficial.
Also, using natural oils every day can be bad if used in excess. Anything can clog pores if used in excess, so I would use oils sparingly if daily washing wasn't part of my routine.
