I'm about to become a self-relaxer and I need recommendations. I pretty sure I will be using lye, but I am open to suggestions. So if you have been using the same relaxer for a year or more and are thrilled with your results, then rep your set.

I've been using Vitale Life and Body (Lye, regular). I base my scalp really good so that it's not irritated and it's not harsh on my hair either. I've used it consistantly for the last 2 years. The mild version is Vitale Ideal.

I used Vitale years ago, and aside from my poor haircare habits it was pretty good.

Silk Elements is all the rage right now but I need to do more research.

Keep em comin guys.

I'm pretty simple. I've been using Revlon in regular strength (lye) since I've gone back to relaxing and it works just fine for me. I like how it doesn't get my hair stick straight leaving it with enough body to make my fine hairs "appear" full. Not sure if it has to do with the application process or the perm alone. But it works for ME. Thanks.

SILK ELEMENTS LYE. I started using regular but tired of the lack of hair texture and what I saw as thin strands; switched to mild..very good. Next touchup using SE regular again..I had less tangled roots with regular plus I want to be able to have easier comb outs without a lot of detangler spray. I may switch back to mild but I'll see. Still it'll be SE.

I self relax and for the past year I have been using Elasta QP Lye
It gets the job done and leaves me straight but not bone straight and is mild enough to allow me extra processing time since Im kinda slow.

I rep & love affirm lye, but I have cousins who swear by the silk elements lye and sensitive scalp. I think the silk elements would be a good choice for a self relaxer since you would have no trouble buying it.

Arosci Progressive (lye) It's the only thing my stylist has used on me in the past 6-7 years, and my hair loves it. I've never been able to stick with one brand for so long.
