In the refrigerator?
In the freezer?
In a cool, dark place?

Please give me very specific instructions- i mean talk to me as if i am a 3 year old.

Good thread..... Awaiting the arrival of my Henna in the mail, and was wondering this myself. I think the website said something similar: powder form = refrigerator; mix = freezer

I store dry henna either in the freezer or refrigerator depending on length of time I will be storing it.

Mixed henna always goes in the freezer.

Unopened containers go in the cabinet. Once it's been opened, if not mixed, it is stored in an air tight container in the cabinet. Once it's been mixed, I use my FoodSaver to Vacuum seal the bags until the next use.

Freezer always - I got in the habit of storing stuff in the freezer when I brought bulk spices - and really, henna is a 'spice' (powdered plant substance) so - mixed or unmixed - if it's not on my head, it's in the freezer.

Ladies, I bought 3 boxes of Jamila Superior Quality Henna, (100 grms each) in May of '07. I used up 2 boxes last year.

I have one box left and had not stored it in fridge, but instead in a woven basket that I keep excess products. It was all the way on the bottom, covered by other stuff, away from sunlight. When I dug it up this morning, the box was a bit crushed and the lid was slightly open. The plastic wrapper inside the box was punctured.

Have I compromised the powder? Is there a way for me to know whether it is still fresh? How long does it take for Henna powder to go stale or lose its potency? Thanks.

:bump: Bumpity bump. Henna gurus, where ya'll at?!!

Mix a little up, and see if you still get a good color release - if you do, it's fine.

I'm not sure how long it would take for henna to go 'stale', exposed to the elements....

I'm storing mine in my freezer.. I've had it for over a year so I don't know if it's still good.

Thanks, Nappywomyn. Imma mix it up tonight, and check it out in the morning.
