While at the natural health store the other day (I'm always looking for products to keep my body youthful and beautiful), I ran across a shampoo called Shikai Moisturizing Shampoo.

Anyway, maybe some of you have heard of it already so I apologize if this has already been posted.

I still haven't gotten around to using the powders... I just don't have time, but I purchased the shampoo and I love it! :)

Here is a link to where you can purchase the shampoo and the every day conditioner, PLUS a skincare line!

You can't beat that, right?

Hey I saw this at Wholefoods. :)

Get it, girl, GET IT!

I really like the shampoo and I was asking the guy about the MOISTURIZING conditioner because I didn't see it.

Well, after visiting their website, there isn't one. You can use another moisturizing conditioner or try Shikai's every day one conditioner. I'm going to pick that up tomorrow...

I found something else at the health store for skin (bought it by mistake, actually), and I love it! I'll have to post it on the skin thread, though

Let me know if you decide to try the Shikai shampoo, Cinna :)

Girl I was wondering whether or not I should buy it or not, now you've sold me. My next visit to Whole foods I'll have to pick up some.

Thanks for the wonderful review. :)

thanks for sharing Blossssom. do you mind me asking if they products are all natural? I will check wild oats and vitamin shoppe here to see if they sell it b/c I really want to give Indian products a try.

Yes, it the bottle says natural and rich in organic products...

I hear you, Majesty... that's the whole point. I'm too busy for the powders.

If I'm not mistaken, Shikai (the brand) has nothing to do what Shikakai and Amla. At my local whole foods the Shikai rep was in the store one day and I asked her if there was a link and she said, no Shikai is just a name.

I asked the store clerk (a guy-yea, like he would know) if it was connected to shikakai and then we both read the back of the bottle and it says that the shampoo is based on this special botanical extract obtained from the fruit of an East Asian acacia tree.

Acacia concinna is the main ingredient in the shampoo, I googled AC and it is shikakai :)

From http://labshelf.com/shikakai-fruit.html
(this site is connected to shikai so they may have biased info but it does support the above quote. shikai the brand does not use shikakai powder.)
ShiKai imports this shikakai powder from India and uses it as the primary cleansing and sudsing agent in ShiKai Shampoos. Instead of using it in its raw powdered state however, Shikai makes an extract which preserves the beneficial properties and converts shikakai powder into a water-soluble form. This "shiKai" extract, as they've named it, is used in place of soaps and harsh detergents. The resulting shampoos are truly different -- they are gentle, mild, naturally low pH, and are genuine alternatives to all other shampoos found today.

Someone posted about extract somewhere on LHCF. To get an extract you have to use some chemical means to get that (usually an alcohol). This alters the natural structure of the original source. In this case, I can't find enough info about shikai extract vs. shikakai powder to see if there is a difference but based ont shikai's own site, their extract is not the same as shikakai powder/paste.

Thanks for posting the ingredients... seemingly, shikakai comes in more than just a form of powder. The powder and the extract are derivatives of an actual tree so it seems to me that you can get shikakai in various formations.

The rep. sounds uninformed to me by saying Shikai is just a name when it clearly states on the bottle where the ingredient comes from.

Hey Tishee! Memphis has a Whole Foods across the street from Wolfchase Mall.

So if this isn't all natural, if i get the powder, how do you use it to shampoo your hair? Do you mix it with something else (such as water, aloe, oils, etc)?
I stop using shampoos, i have been using baking soda once a month as a shampoo, but i would like to use something else sometimes. For i heard, if you use baking soda too often it can dry your hair out, so i want something to use when i'm not using baking soda.

Thanks
Meverllyn

You should google all threads by Cocoa_C, Merver... there are several threads about how to use the powders. Good luck!
