Can anyone explain why the MN is not good to use if your a pregnant or trying to become pregnant? Or is there any truth in this?
Thanks for your help....

There is no clear-cut answer to this question because no one on this board actually knows the affects of this stuff in the long run. To be safe before you start or stop any medicine, use any medical creams or jellies, or anything you are uncertain about it is always best to speak with the doctor who is caring for you while you are pregnant. Start by checking the label on the MN package as it relates to pregnancy then discuss that with your doctor. Or just put the use of it on the shelf until you have had your child and then maybe give it a try. From my experience though during pregnancy while the hormones are going wild, hair will grow like wild weeds if you take care of it. Always remember that you and your baby’s health are more important than some long hair.

Does the Monistat package has any guidelines about using it in pregnancy? Or the jock itch cream? Considering this is a widely available (and used) product, I would suspect that if you called your doctor and asked him what to do about a yeast infection while TTC or pregnant, s/he'd send you to get some monistat, or prescribe you something similiar if it was a more rampant infection....and if she didn't, she'd (hopefully) be able to tell you why.

As someone said a few days ago, if it's good/safe enough for my vayjayjay, it's good enough for my scalp.

The back of the box says "If pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a health professhional before use". As mentioned by tia123 "Always remember that you and your baby’s health are more important than some long hair."

While some medications are considered safe to take during pregnancy, the effects of other medications on your unborn baby are unknown. Therefore, it is very important to pay special attention to medications you take while you are pregnant, especially during the first trimester, a crucial time of development for your baby.

If you were taking prescription medications before you became pregnant, please ask your health care provider about the safety of continuing these medications as soon as you find out that you are pregnant. Your health care provider will weigh the benefit to you and the risk to your baby when making his or her recommendation about a particular medication. With some medications, the risk of not taking them may be more serious than the potential risk associated with taking them.

The following medication have no known harmful effects during pregnancy when taken according to the package directions. If you want to know about the safety of any other medications not listed here, please contact your health care provider

Yeast Infection..................Monistat 3 or Terazol

*Please Note: No drug can be considered 100% safe to use during pregnancy

Though the author of this piece does not say why Moni 3 was recommended over the 7 day version, I suspect it is so the medication passes through the blood for a shorter period of time.

While the 3 day dosage is more concentrated, it's still only introduced to the blood system for 3 days, and that would be a source of concern for me. Why am I allowed to take a 3 day dosage over a 7 day dosage?

Also, and this is just "It~Can~Grow" and no medical data is included to support my theory:
1. Our vag. have a certain amount of healthy bacteria. This bacteria helps to maintain a healthy vag. balance.
2. Nothing new, but our vag. also have a certain amount of daily secretions.

I believe these two factors break down and absorb some of the MN prior to entering the blood system? And because our internal vag. temperatures are a little heated  even more of a percentage is expelled overnight reducing it's intensity even further.

Just a thought..while I know most mix (even I did) their MN with oils, greases, etc...it's still pretty concentrated when absorbed into the blood system through the scalp.

We/I would be willing to throw the dice on the long term affects for myself, but I wouldn't wanna gamble the affects it may have on little baby blue or pink.

Lastly, keep in mind you are given the ok to use as prescribed. The ok for it's use during pregnancy is because a condition exists, and even then, the approval is for a 3 or 7 day use only.

I know during my last pregnancy I got a couple of yeast infections.....I know too much info...but they allowed me to use the 7 day not the 3 or 1.....They also made sure thats what they were treating first b/c they didn't want me to take it un necessary ......So I think in some way it can affect the baby

As far as I know, the rule of thumb when you're pregnant is to avoid pretty much any and everything.

Chemicals and medicines are definitely a no-no. Some natural products, like cayenne pepper, thyme essential oil, etc., should be avoided when you're pregnant or nursing, too.

One thing is certain, the range of what an adult woman can take is definitely different from what a developing baby can take. I'll be trying MN pretty soon (after doing the research, I found that it's an antifungal and the same stuff doctors regularly prescribe for ringworm of the scalp, body, etc., so the only harm it could do me is probably due to an allergic reaction) but I certainly wouldn't use it if I were pregnant.

As a matter-a-fact, if I relaxed my hair, I'd stop relaxing if I were pregnant, because I've heard that chemcials in the relaxers could be harmful to the baby when you're pregnant.

Why take the chance with your baby?

Like alot of the others said, consult your doctor first before using it. When I fierst heard of MN I wanted to use it so bad but I was nursing my second child at the time and I wasn't sure if it would be safe to use in on my scalp since it travels through the blood stream so I just called and asked the doc. I gave him the exact ingrediant which was MN and I told him I wanted to use it on my scalp (lol). I felt really crazy saying that to him but I would have felt worst if I had used it when it wasn't safe to use and my daughter became ill due to it. So to make a long story short, doc said it was perfectly fine to use while breastfeeding and I was so so happy I asked first instead of just using it anyway.

So just ask your doctor and see wht they say its either gonna be yes or no! Better safe than sorry and we get to learn more about MN from a medical point of view from asking the doctors.

Thanks for your help....

You may potentially harm your unborn child. If that is not reason enough... I don't know what is.
