Wow. A lot of stylists feel empowered when they're holding scissors.
I am working really hard to grow long healthy hair. I know there are some very conscious stylists out there, but its a shifty hair world out there.

When I get to my final goal in another year or two (Mid-Back Length), I will turn NINJA on someone if this happens, which is why its best for me to keep perfecting my DIY techniques.

I was natural for a year when I first decided to go healthy. On my 1st nappiversary, I went to the only stylist I trust for a relaxer. And even she was very scissor happy. When I moved, I found another stylist, and she was excellent, until she chopped off like 2-3 inches when I asked for a trim. The more I know about hair care, the more nervous I get. So, its best if I stay home for now.

Truth be told, I would like to find that one special person who can give me an occasional doobie, but I am in no hurry to start visiting new people right now. I know in my heart of hearts that the ONE is out there, though.

This is exactly why I dumped my stylist and found LHCF!! A trim does not equal CUTTING off all my hair . I didn't have the guts to invert his face though...

So sorry to hear about your friend I won't even attempt to try to put myself out there like to have someone I'm not even sure they know what a trim or a S&D is, even touch my hair when it gets longer.

It's by someone on this forum, who knows what the heck it is and KNOWS exactly what we're wanting, know what I mean? I mean, LHCF is serious when it comes to haircare, and I think we'd all be on the same page getting done by our LHCF sistahs, don't ya think?

This is why I left the stylist I went to for years. This is also why my friend and her niece stopped going to my stylist. I haven't been to a salon in 5 months and I don't plan on going to one anytime soon.

Thanks LadyEsquire....I hear on the bolded. One bad trip is all it takes to really have you doing this Now that I am trying to get to apl, I am even more careful. I should be there by the end of the year though...that is if I can let go to the last of my bad habits

We got into a very heated argument. She basically said that she's promoting my hair growth and I told her she was just "scissor happy" among other choice words.

We had this same problem last year when she "trimmed" off most of my progress so it's really my fault but I thought we had an understanding that she knew I was growing my hair out and wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt.

I told my former stylist over and over that I wanted less than 1/2" trimmed. The one day that I didn't tell her, because I thought that she understood and remembered from the other times, she cut off a lot more than I had been telling her to cut. I didn't want to keep repeating myself because I thought it would be condescending or patronizing. I thought I would insult her if I said "less than 1/2" again.

I guess we both learned that we can't give the stylists the benefit of the doubt.

Shameful, my SO hinted to me that his mom and sister wanted to take me to the salon I said no thank you because they are always going to scissor happy stylists. NO NO NO I can do bad all by myself.

The last I went to the salon for a trim before braiding...I took in my own professional trimming scissors and specified that did not want more than half an inch taken off and just in case she didnt have a clue what half an inch looked like I gave her an example. She knew how serious I was cause I was watching her like a hawk in the mirrow. If you are going to let someone give you a trim...let them show you how much they have taken off on the first cut then you can either say too much or too little but still watch them....if its not going your way grab that scissor and end that scene without having to cut up the sylists' own hair!

Oh wow! I am speechless. See, this is why, when I do go for a professional touch-up (with a lady I trust), about the time she is rinsing off the deep conditioner, I remind her that I am leaving with a wet head. I put my hair up in a wet bun and I am out. She may not like it, but I made it clear that that is the way I like it. I trust very few near me with the scissors...very few.

My Aunt lives in ATL and she has long wavy hair. She started going to this stylist and everytime she went to get her hair done the stylist always "trimmed" her hair. She would ask the stylist why everytime she got newgrowth the lady would chop it off. Of course the stylist would say it was damaged.. Anyway my Aunt's hair is SL now and this is the shortest her hair has ever been in her life!! I told her to fire the lady because she was either jealous or didn't want my Aunts hair to get any longer than hers erplexed


My other cousin is a stylist in ATL and she is VERY scissor happy

That's awful! I'm sorry that happened. I had a scissor happy stylist cut my near APL hair to neck length and I didn't step foot in a salon for five years afterwards. Now there's only one person I trust to cut my hair -and he's a man. He HATES cutting away a woman's length, even for style. When he says 1/8 of an inch...he means it.
