I'm two seconds from ordering Shikakai soap off the internet. First I want to know how you use it. Second, what results have you seen specifically? On a need to know basis, I need to know! Thanks for any input.
I used it for the first time 2 days ago on wash day.
I prepooed, then rinsed under the shower. I just rubbed the bar near the roots of my hair a few times and lathered up. It's really not hard to get a good lather, even though my hair was filthy.
I rinsed and noticed my hair was really strong and soft. My scalp was clean, but my hair was not stripped. It actually felt kind of coated, but not in a bad way. It doesn't detangle my hair as well as I had hoped, but it didn't add tangles either, if that makes sense.
Overall, I love it. I don't plan on using regular shampoo again. I also washed my face with it, and it helped clear up a new breakout on the side of my face (damn cell phone. ).
It stained my white towels red. I haven't run them through the wash, but I'm sure it'll come out with a little Oxy.
I bought mine on smallflower.com bc I'm too lazy to search for stores that have it. I'm excited to try it.
So, you lather the soap directly on your hair instead of building a lather in your hands? Also, can I use this shampoo often--like every 2 or 3 days without the drying effects of a regular shampoo with sls?
CCclark: I got my shikakai soap from the Indian store parallel to the Target on North Druid Hills and Briarcliff. JazzyKate: There is another Indian store near Northlake Mall? Could you PM me and let me know where it is exactly. Anyway, I love, love, love my shikakai soap. I paid I think 99 cents for it and I love it as well as my shikakai powder that I add to my conditioner.
Personally I HATED it. I could have just washed my hair with plain old Ivory soap and gotten the same effect. Did not workout for me. I did not like the smell, either. Smelled like an old lady's closet filled with old moth bitten dresses that have not been aired out since 1932. I tossed it.
I cannot handle scented soaps of any kind. Will stick to my African Black Soap from Ghana. Plus the Shikakai soap does stain up stuff. too much work for me.
