I have been with out a relaxer since mid December. I've been up on my protiene and moisture but I'm still sheading like a dog. I braided my hair two weeks ago with weave, then I took it down because they looked slopy. I washed my hair last night and deep conditioned. this morening I look like this because my scarf came off.

I'm trying to do the boot camp but I'm about to call it quits, if I can't tame this beast on my head:wallbash:

Is there any advice for me out there?
I bought a relaxer this morening and I'm trying not to use it if there is another way.

I have been with out a relaxer since mid December.

Are you trying to transition or stretch your relaxers? My last relaxer was November and I'm going until the end of this month before another in an attempt to stretch. This year I only want to relax 4 times and next year three and so forth.

I've been up on my protein and moisture but I'm still shedding like a dog.

How's your scalp? I ask this because I used to be a chronic, year round, shedder. I always thought the gunk (slimy cream colored) on my scalp was dandruff that got wet during wash. However, I discovered it was build up from the products I used...mainly shampoo and grease.

If your scalp is not free from debris your hair will grow much slower and you WILL experience shedding from this - not sure why an unhealthy scalp leads to shedding but it did and does (someone on here mentioned why, but can't remember).

I would suggest a couple things for the shedding:

1) Start with your scalp. Might I suggest purchasing a garlic shampoo, or garlic oil and add to your shampoo or conditioner.

2) After washing, rinse your scalp with 1/4 cup of seabreeze, let sit from 1-2 min and rinse out...apply conditioner and proceed w/balance of your routine.

3) Create a scalp massage treatment. (got this from shtow) Get some coconut oil (organic/unrefined. can purchase from walmart in vitamin aisle) take 1/4 cup and put in another container and add some tea tree oil (purchased from whole foods, vitamin shop or any gnc). Blend and apply to scalp nightly.

Those things together will remove any blockage from your scalp and keep scalp healthy.

Also, others have mentioned Apple Cider Vinegar (organic/unrefined) rinses for overall scalp health.

I washed my hair last night and deep conditioned. this morning I look like this because my scarf came off..

I sleep all over and until I added a satin bonnet ON Top of the satin scarf mine would come off every night. I want to say it's the band around the bonnet that works to secure everything in place.

I'm trying to do the boot camp but I'm about to call it quits, if I can't tame this beast on my head

Is it the shedding, the scarf or what about the bootcamp is causing you to 'want' to throw in the towel?

Hope some of this helps you stay the course...

I just wanted to chime in and say hang in there. Now if you put braids in your hair you're going to get some shedding which is natural. Are you having more than expected? I know that can be difficult and frustrating. May I also ask if you're washing your hair regularly. Sometimes when people try to stretch relaxers they skip washing for two weeks or three...trying to hang in there. But I notice my hair starts to itch and then shed IF I don't wash it. Like today it wants me to wash it. (lol)

I hope you can hang in there. If you're getting breakage I usually just go ahead and relax, because breakage from the two different textures defeats the purpose of stretching.

I'm sure other ladies will chime in...we've all been there.

Sorry......I wish I could help you....I haven't been successful at stretching past 8 weeks........I'm on boot-camp too....

Hang In there.......Your stretcher's should chime in too!!

Thank you all for your support, I wash often- I'm washing it right now to prevent me from useing that relaxer I just bought. I'm going to take it to my mom's house and leave it there until it's time to relax. It is sooo tempting. I need to get some of that coconut oil you speak of, maybe it will help calm my roots.
