I didn't get that. M aybe I didn't catch the purpose in Macherieamour's tutorial. Why would you roll upwards instead of down...wouldn't that make your hair flip up?

It gets the root straighter. The Dominicans roll that way. And no it doesn't make your hair flip up unless you comb it that way once you take the rollers down.

I also heard that it can give more body to the hair, but I dont know if that is true :look: ive never had a rollerset sooo..

I agree on BODY and VOLUME. I notice a big difference if i roll my hair theh regular way, or down vs rolling as far up as i can and i have a LOT more volume in my rollersets. No "flippage" and it accentuates my layers even more.

Oooo, that's why! :wallbash: It makes a lot of sense. I wondered about that myself. Thanks for the info.

If rolling upwards will make my hair look that THAT I'll glady do it lool!! I'ma try rolling upwards this weekend :drunk::spinning:

i just do it cause its easier sometimes and the rollers fit better... and once you take it out you can always flip it under in the other direction so.... but i think both ways straigthen the roots

My roots get much straighter/flatter when I roll upwards than when I roll the other way. I don't notice an increase in volume. Try it and see if it works for you.

It took me a long time to even try this and I wish I had done it sooner because I put my hair through a lot more heat and handling to get the roots straight when I rolled the other way.

Macherie doesn't explain the reason why in the tutorial. I did it that way because she did:grin:

ITA on the straighter roots and more room for placement. I did this last night and my hair is really full today  Could be a combo of the products I used and the set, but its really fluffy.

I roll up too. It flattens the new growth, gives the hair some volume, rollers fit better under my dryer and it doesn't take as long to get the rollers in.

Bumping this because I don't understand what y'all mean by rolling up?

Some one please explain.....TIA!

Correct me if I'm wrong

It's the opposite of this

hair will be rolled on TOP of hair instead of underneath.

sorry could not find a pic of "upward" rollersetting.

hopes this helps a bit. ;)

Rolling up is also easier on the arms for those with really long hair. When you roll down you have to stretch your arms all the way up the entire length of the hair and roll down, but when you roll up you start at the bottom and go up, thus so much less stress on the arms. Hope that makes sense.

I was tryna take a pic lol (For the sake of science of course lol) . It's like you put the roller on top of your hair and roll towards yoru scalp. Make sense?

Thanks to all you ladies that answered my question. I have mastered the art of rolling down....can do it in my sleep  But rolling upward, is going to be a challenge for me. But if it helps smooth those 9, 10 week post roots....I'm on it! :yep:

I rolled my sis hair upward for the first time yesterday and the results were nice, but it was actually a little harder to roll for me. I'll see if I'll continue to do it this way or not.

how does rolling it down make the roots straighter? I've had it rolled up and it just made my hair flat and lifeless.

I rolled my hair up for a dry rollerset yesterday. It would probably look better if I would have washed and set...but the results were fab. I ahve a lot of volume as you ladies said and it seemed liek I could get more rollers in on my head. The only dowside was that I'm used to rolling down so it took me longer. Practice makes perfect right? Well tell me this one

How do you make the curls go back under if you're rolling up? I have a flip kidna rollerset going on because my curls are all flipped :( :nono: It's kute but I want my curls to be down not up
