Hey ladies!

I did my bc about 2 weeks ago, Im all natural now and I out some braids in over the weekend. they looked so wierd. I havent had them in like a year + Im always in lacefronts so I took them out today. Problem is, my hair is too short to cornrow under the wig...and I really wanted to do something to my hair otherwise I keep touching it!

So the plan is to do everything as normal and just flatten my hair under the LF...but will this hinder growth? I thought the braids were a good idea cuz of the tension on the scalp! but now that Im doing nothing to it, I dont want my hair stagnant!

Help! :)

I stumbled across a couple of post about braids. Seems one of the secrets to maintaining the length that you grow (consensus is your hair grows - it's the retention thing that keeps us from gaining the length we want) is maintenance and care.

One (or several) thread stated that while you have your hair in braids..

1) make sure, before you braid it away, to properly moisturize and use your essential oils (eo's)

2) don't keep your braids in too long before taking them down, rewashing, DCing and re-moisturize.

Ladies??

Thanks a lot! the thing is I've already taken out the braids...I hated them, I looked about 12, so I intend to wear my lacefront with just a wig cap underneath...I cant canerow cuz my hair is too short. I just felt like since I am just gonna have a TWA under my wig, Im not really encouraging my hair's growth, since there is no tension on the scalp...however slight:ohwell:

I got yah...actually what's better than the 'tension' of the braids is nightly scalp massages (3-5 min) with some Wild Growth Oil, Boundless Tresses, MTG or MN mixture, or if none of those appeal...a mixture of essential oils will do the trick.

Thank you! Ive got the MN Mix, so I'll be doing that.

I think something on growafrolong said braids encourage hair growth because of the slight tension...encourage not cause. I thought it made sense because of gravity and all (DONT LAUGH):lachen::lachen:

Personally, my 4B hair shrivels to nothing if left to its own devices. I know its shrinkage but it better not be shrinking back into my head because it aint in plaits!:lachen::lachen::grin::blush:

My first big chop, I cut my hair down to just enough to brush and get waves. You know about 1/4 inch of hair.

I left it alone. Brushed it in the morning, rubbed some moisturizer on it.

It grew to the length where I had to do something with it. I couldn't just fet up brush and go. I had 3-4 inches of hair before I knew it. I then braided it up at night.

SO yeah, if you leave it alone. It grows.

That has been the secret to my hair's success. Leave it alone and it grows.

It is when I start messing with it, that I have problems with breakage, etc.

I have 4b hair with lots of shrinkage.

i've never heard that tension on the scalp promotes growth... :look:

Because it doesn't. Thats completely a myth. Thats one of those things grandparents and parents said especially to boys trying to grow there hair out. They would put their short little fros into a million little puff balls with tight rubberbands and say this would make their hair grow because its pulling at the scalp. All it really does is cause a receeding hairline and tension alopecia.

That tension on the scalp thing is the devil!:heated:
I wore braids consistently for two years and while I gained a foot of hair my nape thinned out considerably from "tension on the scalp".

i thought as much. my son's little fro grows like a weed, but he has severe shrinkage so it never looks "longer." i just know because it gets bigger and takes longer to comb after 3-4 weeks that he needs it trimmed again. if i had the time and patience he'd probably have longer hair than me right now... LOL :lachen:

can your hair grow to its full potential if you do NOTHING to it? well, probably not... but it can definitely grow out from a twa without you braiding it underneath the wig. :yep:
