your products to determine if one products is really working well, if you go through one rotation of products in a month (or less)?

I'm asking this because I've asked about 'how to determine if this conditioner is working for your hair' and the response was through using one product for a full rotation.

Now, I surely don't have the thickest, fullest or longest hair, but I'm finding that if I slather the product from root to tip, I'm going through a regular jar of conditioner in 2 weeks w/ 2x week washings.

Am I really going to be able to tell if this or that product is working in that short amount of time?

To be honest I've used a tube of Joico Intense Hydrator, Biolage Balm (??) and ORS Hair May in 2 months. Sorry so long, but my hair 'seems' to respond to all - I mean each week my shedding was less and less and waay less...shine was there, moisture, etc.

So, I cant really tell (yah know I'm still considered a newbie so be patient w/me:perplexed) if one was better than the other.

I so want to find a staple for my deep conditioners because that seems the most important piece since we're using cheapie cons for pre poos/cowash, eos...so deep conditioners are the only real product I need to identify for my hair recovery/journey.

Thanks for listening and helping :yep:

Sorry that I can't really answer your question. I have add when it comes to product. I just rotate them whenever I feel like it. Most of the things i've tried have worked for me, on the occassion that the product sucked the first time I used it then it's forever tainted and I don't use it again.

Hrrmm..... I usually don't go through product that fast....I'd say a 'full size' tub of something would last me at least 6-8 washes.... though, my hair is a good bit shorter than yours....

This is what happened to me when I would towel dry my hair before applying the conditioner. My hair is not that full (it's not all the same length) but it's thick. I found myself using a lot of Pantene in one shot, and it only lasted me like 5 washings, if that much. Now I apply conditioner to soaking wet hair. Not only do I use much less conditioner, but I find that it absorbs into my hair better. As of late, I've transfered my conditioner into another bottle and diluted it 50:50 with water. It still works exactly the same, and it last me twice the amount of time!

If your hair dries dry and hard, or if it's dry and breaking, then you'll know it didn't work. Or, if your hair doesn't have much slip or detangling properties. If it doesn't add strength, moisture, or if it doesn't detangle, toss it. At least that was my way of telling.

Yes, IMO deep conditioners are a very important part of your hair journey, and it took me more than a year to find a one. But you don't have to use only cheapie conditioners as a pre-poo. Personally, they all made my hair harder than shampoo! Instead, you can use oils, or stuff from your kitchen (honey, avocado, olive oil, mayo, molasses, coconut milk, etc.). I've found that oils work best for me as a pre-poo.

:spinning:I'm probably the wrong person to ask. I've stopped washing my hair with shampoo...and I think I'm going to dump the soap bars (I don't like the build up)...I rarely condition and mostly go from braids with shea butter...to the resulting braid out...to a really go rinse and another set of braids.

I guess I mean jar (15-16 oz) and that would be 4 washes.:perplexed

Humm..do you still use cheapies for co wash?

My regimen is:

eos on the scalp to protect from product build up > rinse> pre poo w/con (15-20min) > rinse > co wash > rinse > seabreeze (eliminated this after I got the gunk off my scalf) DC (1 hr) > rinse > leave in - detangle - style

Whadayathink?

Pantene would be considered a cheapie since you can find it at a drugstore, right? So yea, I use this one to co-wash. I LOOOOVE IT!

What are eons? Essential oils? Are they diluted in a carrier oil?

I'm not sure what sea breeze is either...sorry I know I'm out of the loop :perplexed

My only suggestion is to cut out the pre-poo. You're essentially doing the same thing twice in a row...just calling it something different (pre-poo with conditioner and co-washing with conditioner). This is basically the same thing, unless the conditioners serve different purposes. Some ladies pre-poo with a protein conditioner, then dc with a moisturizing conditioner to have a balance of moisture and protein, is that what you meant?

In my very humble opinion, this just seems like too much. Just my opinion though!! If that works for you, then by all means, keep doing it. Your hair looks very healthy, so obviously you know what u doin! I'm thinking about your hair manipulation-wise...

NO, thank you for your input. That was my hair before I started LHCF so I'm trying to get into the right direction to retain.

I thought the pre poo/co wash was the same thing, but you know who newbies sometimes misunderstand things..

K..I'll cut out the co wash and just wash OUT the pre poo:grin:

Seabreeze is an astringent I was using to get rid of the years of shampoo build up on my scalp that I mis- took as dandruff.

Slimy, gunk...but all better now.

thank you, again
