Whoever suggested using 100% silk scarfs over the nylon and satin ones found at most stores was a god sent. I used one for the first time last night that i ordered from Honeyfig.com and it was so nice and soft. I moisterized my last night with a little water and lacio lacio and for the first time I didnt have to put anything on my hair this morning. It feels so smooth and health.

I can't remember who suggested it....but that was the best $10 spent on my hair.

Yes, yes, yes! I'm home from work with a bum foot for the past five weeks and mine has been on my head all day everyday except for the few times I had to leave the house.

I was very spoiled by an old boss that would bring back pure silk scarves for me when he traveled overseas. They were a bribe because I had to figure out his expense reports that were as much as $25k and he was notorious for bad receipt keeping. Of course, I would save one or two to wear to work and show my appreciation, but the rest were in my hair supply drawer :yep:

Now I'm down to my last silk scarf (I think others may have found "new" homes) and I can't imagine what I'll do if I lose it. They're so strong and my hair is in better condition after using it versus when I use nylon or satin. They're very gentle on my ends and smooth my hair nicely.

Well, dang, I didn't know 'real' silk scarves existed. Everytime people use the expression I thought they meant the 100% polyester scarves from the beauty supply, and I hate them all my life. They snag and my hair is not silky as a result. But I have used them all my life, this is something to look into...

Hmmm, I usually like a little stretch in my scarf, but I'll swing by the fabric store and pickup a 1/4 yard of 100% silk. :yep: I just noticed a 2-inch long length of hair near my hairline. It might be because I've been tying my scarfs on a bit tight.

Thanks for the tip

I like stretch too...it just seems to stay on better. I may have to give the silk a try though, especially if it's better for the hair. Thanks OP!

I prefer silk scarf too ,in the past i used satin scarf , I took an old silk square hermes and it' s great .

I've always used silk. I buy the really long oblong shaped ones from Ebay. That allows me to wrap it a couple of times & get a more fashionable bedtime look.

Hmmmm,

I may have to go to Joann's and get a some silk.
Good luck. I went to the Jo Ann's around here and they had 2 kinds. I asked to see the "purest" kind of silk and my satin scarf felt silkier. I walked out.

Yeah, I want that kind of silk that feels cold to the touch. There's a local design store that sells fabric. I'm heading over at lunch.

Exactly what Im looking for. Cant find it here in and around Baltimore. And I hate ordering online cuz I dont want my identity stolen so satin it is for now.

On my to do list also. My scarf everytime i take it off in the morning i can feel it pulling on a hair strand or two.
I think it is satin.

My scarves were fairly dense, which probably accounts for it's long life (about 7 years old). So it isn't the sheer, blowing-in-the-wind, ultra soft and shiny type. Instead, it's a little thick and a low shine, but as it aged and "seasoned" from my hair oils, it's softened. The thickness is probably why it never has a run, tear or snag. Not even an unraveled hem and the hem is very narrow.

My DH has had his credit card information stolen twice. He has never brought anything over the Internet in his life. Both times it was stolen by employees at two different gas stations (he travels a lot). Unfortunately, every time you use anything put paper money you're vulnerable to theft. :yep: Not tryin' scare ya. :nervous2:

I prefer the silk over satin too because it holds folds better than satin so to wear it like a headband is easier.

I have silk scarves, a silk bonnet and I sleep on silk pillowcases--all from www.tenderheaded.com Wearing silk on the hair keeps it moisturized and shiny. The same with using using silk in the hair (SAA). :yep:

Well my soon to be brother in law recently had his identity stolen online and he is marrying my sister in May so It kind of hit home:sad: But I did go to my local BBS today and they are ordering 2 pure silk scarves for me!!! They said the stopped selling them in store because people were complaining about how they dont stay on but they said they should be here in a few days. YAY!

Hey Isis!

This is where I bought mine, as well. I saw a big difference in the shine/moisture level of my hair when I started using silk scarves.

I love my silk scarves. I just bought some yards from the Indian fabric store for about $6.00 (I got alot of fabric) and cut it up as I see different needs for it.

I too prefer silk scarves to the nylon ones found in BSS. I have found some gorgeous ones at great prices on ebay and at TJMaxx and Marshalls.

I just recently invested in two silk scarves to cover my hair with at night, and I can definitely see a difference. My hair feels a lot smoother and looks shinier than when I used to cover with doo rags/satin bonnets. Also my NG appears to lie flatter. An added aesthetic bonus is that my scarves are much prettier than my doo rag and satin bonnet :drunk:. Now I only use them to cover my silk scarf with so that it doesn't slip off my head when I'm asleep.
