I trim as I "legitamatelly" see fit. When i straighten in 20 days I will be trimming away some scraggles I saw the last time I straightened. Be careful with those scissors though, don't strive for perfection or you will lose all of your progress if you aren't careful...

Thank you for the bolded- its why I haven't attained the length I could have had years ago and I see on so many naturals.I took bigghairs' suggestion and had someone hide my haircutting scissors cause if I saw one strand out of line- it got cut!

Yes, I was speaking from experience. In 07 I cut off about 3-5 inches over the course of the year. It was like i was trying to obtain perfection and it wasn't to be had. Also, I kept cutting away my ends not knowing that natchal hair has a tendency to do what mine was/is doing. Cutting my hair resolved absolutely nothing. I would definitely be APL by now, if not inching towards midback :perplexed This year I will not be doing the cutting thing. No way, no how

I trim mine every 6 months. Occasionally if I see a really bad split, I will dust it but I do a big trim of at least an inch every 6 months. HTH Q

The last time I trimmed my hair was May 2006, since then (and for the foreseeable future) all I do is search and destroy and even that's rare (maybe twice a year). :look:

My last trim/cut/scissors experience was Aug. 2006. I don't see myself doing it again in the near future. Some of my hairs have splits, but they don't travel up more than half of a centimetre so I leave them. My hair keep getting longer and healtier.

How often do you trim your ends, for those of you that are natural?
I rarely do an organized trim in which I set out to cut off a set amount. The way I take care of my ends is that as I braid or twist my hair, if two strands are knotted together and I can't work out the knot using my fingers, oil, and patience (which works for like 75% of knots), then I cut just above the knot. Also as I braid or twist, if I see a really egregious arrangement of one-strand knots, I'll trim the strands just above the knots. However, I do not go out of my way to trim one strand knots because I've noticed that after I deep condition my hair, the one-strand knots are fewer--I am starting to suspect that they actually unravel from some strands b/c if it was breakage, I would notice at the moment and especially over time.

So, short answer: I don't really trim.

Like alot of the others have already mentioned, I am currently trimming on an "as needed basis". My last trim was done by a stylist in June 07, and I have NO IDEA when my next trim will be.

Basically, when I start to see splits I will dust them, but if I begin to see what I feel is "alot" of splits, I will get a trim. I bun alot and rarely press, so hopefully I won't need to trim more than one time this year (I only trimmed once last year).

I definitely don't trim anymore at any type of "predetermined frequency" (once a month, once every 3 months, etc etc). It's based off of whether my hair needs or not :yep:

I haven't trimmed since Feb 07, when I cut off the last of my damaged dyed hair. I don't plan on trimming again until my hair is long enough to do S&D's....

I don't trim. I have done S&D. I rarely find splits, thank goodness. I will only trim for damage, to maintain a particular length or to slowly get rid of layers. I haven't trimmed since summer of '05. I had decided to trim in the summer, but I'm not sure yet.

I trim every 2 months.. I about to go to three though. My hair stylist barely cuts anything off if any lol but lawd when I first did my big chop i had to cut my whole ponytail.. it was alllll damaged:nono:

I used to trim in 6 month intervals. Then I went to a 12 month interval as an experiment. Now I am on an 18 month intervals. I trim only when my hair is in a straightened style. Then I took a leap of faith and went 12 months. The last trim I had was October 2006. If I do nothing until March or April, I'll be at no trim for 18 months. Baggying my ends and keeping them protected is what gets me through. I agree 1,000% with Bre~Bre, try not to chase perfection and put the scissors down if you can, when you can.

I don't really trim my ends. I got my hair cut back in May but that's it. I never really got a lot of split ends (even when I was relaxed) so I don't see the need. It would just set back my progress.
