WHAT THE PIBBS HYPE ALL ABOUT????

I was reading you guys's post last night using my cellphone. My cell sometimes cuts off on me if I respond to posts. I wanted to comment so bad, so here it goes:

I want everyone to know that when I give Pibbs big ups it's because of what it does for me and the possibilities for my hair and what I'm trying to do for it. It is a great investment, I feel because of everything you can do with it- not just rollersets. I just wanted to say that because a few women on here asked me questions about the Pibbs and I answered them honestly from my own experience with it, which in turn made them want to get one too. I would feel so bad if usage didn't work out for them because of a roller size.

I see what you guys mean though, even though I haven't tried it, the black rollers and the biggest size most likely will not fit, unless you have a very small head. Personally, I don't have an issue with the hood size. I couldn't even imagine what a hood that could accommodate the biggest size would look like Just to let you know, on my way to work this morning, I bought the grey magnetic rollers and purple ones, to test out a rollerset on them tonight. I have Macherie's DVD, I believe she has the Pibbs and she had some big rollers in her head- I don't remember the color though. *getting off my soap box*

You don't sound ignorant... LOL I wondered the same thing too when I first started seeing the Pibbs hype. I'm also a PJ Anyway, it's a professional salon dryer that will have you looking like you stepped out of the salon. Also, you won't be scrunched up under the table top and you'll be dried in no time. I mean the world won't stop rotating if I didn't get it, but it's a good investment for what I'm trying to do for my hair. And, yes, I was seduced by all the hype. AND I LOVE MY PIBBS!!

I agree 100% - I love it - it's so relaxing and enjoyable.

I have personally used the jumbo grey rollers and purple ones - mine fits perfectly under Pibby - no problem and I still have room left. You can adjust the height of the hood - you are not restricted. I too just ordered Macherie's DVD - I'm still having problem with the clips - positioning them right with my rollers - other than that it's perfect.

Honestly, they look (from the pics) to be about the same size. Someone asked me yesterday if the hood sizes differ. I don't know because I only have one and never actually saw the other in person. I offered to measure the hood of mine (514) and compare it with someone who has the 512. I don't think mine has enough room for the largest rollers though. You could probably squeeze the black ones in there though. Shoot, I'm ready to go get the black rollers too to try them out to see if they fit. Also, cuz Sista said the set on them comes out nice. Maybe I won't look like Ronald McDonald this time...

Before I bought the Pibbs I had a Hot Tools stand up dryer. I actually think it worked just as well. It was just louder and didn't have a timer. My hair dried just as fast...actually i think the Hot Tools dried it faster. It was Ionic and I think that made a difference.

I like that the Pibbs has a timer and that you can set various degrees. But the hood is SMALLER than the Hot Tools I have. If I do a set with my perm rods, it will not fit under the Pibbs. I cannot use large rollers with the Pibbs...period. My hair is long...about 1 inch from waist when wet. And it's very thick, but I paid the huge amount of money because I thought the hood was gonna accommadate every roller known to man.

I'm glad that I saw your post. I was tempted to jump on the Pibbs bandwagon & I am not a bandwagon jumper. Anyway, I think that I have the same stand up dryer and it dries my roller sets in an hour. I think the main difference is that the Hot Tools is ionic & the Pibbs has a different air circulation process. Also, I don't have to wear a hair net & worry about my hair being sucked up. But, for some strange reason, I am still tempted to get a Pibbs

I'm glad that I saw your post. I was tempted to jump on the Pibbs bandwagon & I am not a bandwagon jumper. Anyway, I think that I have the same stand up dryer and it dries my roller sets in an hour. I think the main difference is that the Hot Tools is ionic & the Pibbs has a different air circulation process. Also, I don't have to wear a hair net & worry about my hair being sucked up. But, for some strange reason, I am still tempted to get a Pibbs

It is not a big suction like a vaccuum, when I do my deep conditioners in there, I have on my plastic cap and that's it. There's no big suction. The reason for the hair net (and it also says it in the manual) is because there's an actual fan in the top of the hood (which is covered by a vent thingy) and you don't want stray hairs to fly up and get caught into the fan. It's like a precaution. You don't even have to go out and buy a hairnet, it actually comes with one. A cheesy one, but I've put it on and it works. So don't think you need some heavy duty wind fighting hairnet.

Yes, but he charged 3% extra for processing the CC payment. If you did mail out the payment, the smartest way would be to send it certified (so you can track it) at the post office, the post office also sells money orders- you can kill two birds with one stone.

I can understand your fear. I don't feel it as suction, it feels more like wind... not wind coming down on my head, but like swirling around it. I don't feel the cap being pulled up though. I think the amount of hair the person has, the amount of conditioner in the hair, and the size of plastic cap would probably play a part in feeling like it's being sucked up, I didn't feel that though. I would not be in there with loose hair though, because there is a risk of your hair blowing into the fan, so don't think I'm saying that it's safe to do that because it's not.

LOL I know that's right! The price of gas should be against somebody's law! You may be right, it is worth the 3% cost.

The black rollers are like the size of coke cans. you can fit your hand in there and wear them like a bracelets.



These are the sizes for magnetic rollers w/o the snap on part:
5/8" Blue
13/16" Orange
15/16" Yellow
1 1/8" Beige
1 3/8" Aqua
1 1/2" Red
1 3/4" Lavender
2" Grey
2 1/2" Black
3" Purple -- I don't think this size will fit at all under the Pibbs. Planning to see what a set on these looks like next.

*Tend to be the most popular sizes.

Greys (2in diameter) should have no problem fitting under there.

THANK YOU and God bless you for posting this! People kept referencing roller colors and I couldn't picture what was what (I use the rollers with matching clips). Ok, so it sounds like my yellow ones with the clips should definitely fit (they are a little smaller than the greys).

just a thought,

if the hot tools dryer works better for you, and you cant really fit comfortably under the pibbs. then maybe you should continue using the hot tools ionic and sell the pibbs. im sure there are many sisters on this site or one of the other sites (bhm gahl ect ect ect) that will buy it from you.you would be helping themout and you would also have your money back in your pocket since you arent as pleased as you could be with it.

again ............. just a thought.

You might love it. It's not that I don't see the benefits of the Pibbs. I like the temp setting, the timer, the air flow. I might have a bigger head than most too. It's not like the Hot Tools dryer's hood was SOOO much larger...maybe an inch or two. But the fit is tighter with Pibbs no doubt. I will say that I notice my Hot Tools does not get as hot as it first did when i bought it. Maybe the motor is wearing down. And this might be another reason to get the Pibbs.

So, basically neither one is perfect to me.

It is worth the price!!!! I don't know how to explain it, but you hair looks as if you stepped out of a Salon. I love my Pibbs 514, because i can set the temp, time etc.

Yall can rave all you want to, I'm not giving in on this one *hmph*. I won't part with my cheapie soft bonnet. I can't deal with sitting stationary so I like the soft bonnet because I can move all around and watch t.v. It fits the gray rollers good and I think it might fit black. I guess I'll find out.

That would be my only complaint with my Pibbs-- the hood size. It's a great dryer and dries you in a snap! Wouldnt trade it for the world, but I can't get under there too comfortably with my black rollers. So if you're one to set on anything larger than the grays (magnetic) then you might find it a tight squeeze. I guess they can't go too large though or it might be too bulky and the drying time might not be as good.

you mean to tell me with that big ole bulky thing people are having trouble getting under there I thought it would be soo spacious. I just bought a rollabout dryer with tourmaline & ionic technology for $120 as the BSS and it works fine ( apl hair is dry in 45 minutes with rollers).

I'm just wondering if I can use this with an office chair or while sitting in a recliner type chair

The Pibbs is a good dryer and the price is very good. There are other "good" dryers out there also. The hype in my opinion is due to the wonderful price. People have been talking about the Pibbs dryer for years on this forum. Its getting a lot of attention now again due to the deal we are getting. I got a 514 and love it. Can't say its better than any other dryer or not as good as any other dryer. Its a personal choice.

In my situation it is better than the one I was using that took forever to dry my hair and I was so uncomfortable while sitting under it. When I think about the money I pay to go to the salon and time (driving and waiting) I know I made a good decision. I go to a dominican salon. 6 visits would cost me a little more than what I paid for the 514 (not including deep conditions during these visits). I was going 2x/month. I will not be in the salon as much now. I can wash, deep condition, rollerset, dry, take the rollers out flat iron or blowdry roots and my hair looks awesome. All from the comfort of my home.

The best thing I like about the Pibbs is the FAN. My other dyer had all those small little holes that keeps puffing out heat on the same spots continuously making for an unevenly dried head, imho. It would still be wet in some spots and crunchy dry in the others. The Pibbs distributes heat well, and you dont have to use as much of it. Notice compared to cheaper dryers the Pibbs tends to have less wattage and lower available temp settings, because it doesnt need it .

I have a question for the "roller setters". I go to th esalon every week for a wash and DC. The last time I roller set my hair myself was back in college when I use to have to prop the dryer on to my dorm bed and sit on the floor I dont even want to re-visit thoses days. My hair did not come out well at all, but it was all that I could do seeing that there were no black or dominican salons where I went to school. Any way what I am asking is what is the trick to roller setting to have it look like the salon set and not dry and frizzy.

I'm sorry, I was totally joking. I do this in all the rave threads because I'm the first one to go out and buy something when it's raved about. I'm trying to keep myself from buying anything else.

I'm not sure why you feel guilty because there are hundreds of people that rave about the Pibbs so I don't think any of the comparisons are directed at you personally. *leaving cuz all the pibbzers hate me now* Just kidding.
