Where could one find one of these? Someone told me about a great experience (albeit in Brazil) where a stylist put her head full with a deep conditioner on it, under a machine that produced steam. Like a hair dryer. This allowed the conditioner to penetrate the hair very nicely.

Any ideas?

Oh yes. This is a wonderful experience. They also do this is some Dominican salons. If your planning to purchase one, I think starting price is like $295

yyyyyyyyyyyyyyeah...nothing cheaper?

Does it dry AND steam. Going to do a google search, what do you call them? Could I find one in the form of a hooded dryer that folks have in their home (available at a Sally's for example?).

I want one of those too. But I can't find an inexpensive one. To simulate the same affect, I cover my hair in a damp turbie towel, cover that with a plastic cap or bag, and then use my soft bonnet dryer to apply heat for 10-20 minutes. I can see a big difference between this and just simply using a plastic cap.

Thanks, now I've got a purpose for my turbie towel!!! I don't like the way it feels against my hair when it's dry cause it pulls at strands:perplexed (maybe I have a "bootleg turbie towel")l. I'll definitely give it a try.

Bumping!
What are some of the results and benefits of the hair with using a hair dryer that produces steam?

Here's a super cheap way (a.k.a. college student way) ... I do this after swimming at my local YMCA I wash with my shikakai bar do a quick regular conditioner then apply my deep conditioner and head off to the steam room.

Ive been using a hair steamer to deep condish for years. I bought it off of ebay and it was very reasonable. I love it. Mine does not dry hair- its just a steamer- I add my condish to my hair and use ditilled water and my hair feels great. It is my preferred conditioning method while I have my hair in twists or in the summer when I wear my twistouts more frequently.

I saw the ones on ebay and thought about it and was wondering of anyone on here had bought one...hmmm....I'll wait for my PIBBS to get acclimated to my house first once it arrives lol

I live in Atlanta and purchased mine from a local dealer

www.fdisalon.com I have been steaming my hair for about two years, the moisture level in my hair is ridiculous...

hi there,

thanks for sharing this. how has it been working for you?

tia,
tishee

my hair is supersoft
It's a keeper in my reg

it's the same ebay user
I bought it from the site rather than paypal because my Dh HATES paypal

I want ridiculous moisture too! This winter is killing my hair. I'm deep conditioning using a heat cap but maybe switching to a steamer will give me better results.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and make the purchase. Thanks for the links.

I bought my hair steamer and hopefully should have it next week.

I've had such great results since joining this forum a few months ago. But for the past two weeks my hair has been going through major breakage. I've had a hard time keeping it sufficiently moisturized this winter. Tomorrow's high is -2! That's crazy. By this time (every winter), I would normally have given up and cut it off. I'm determined not to give up this year. This steamer might become my new best friend.

I think that's a great question. I have read through every thread I could find on this board on hair steamers. I also went to other boards to do research and read a couple of articles. There seemed to be a lot of recommendations. If my conditions were not so extreme, I don't know that I would do it. But I have fought the winter hair blahs for years. If there is anything that I can do for the overall health of my skin (I have eczema) and hair, I've decided to take the plunge. I would also like to reduce the amount of time that I spend on deep conditioning. If this can do it faster, then I'm all for it.

I'll be sure to post my results soon.

Is using a steamer more effective than covering with a plastic cap and going under the dryer?

I posed this question last year in this thread --> http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=128688&page=2

Supposedly it helps penetrate the hair shaft better than a hair dryer, hence the hair gains more moisture. It is a more intense treatment than simply sitting under dryer. And it also helps with color treatments, and helps cut processing time in half.

The ladies offered some nice input on the subject. I have drastically decreased the amt of stuff I buy, but a steamer is still on my list of things I want to add to my home supplies.

Thanks, LadyEsquire. I'm going to check out that other thread right now.

ETA: The other thread has some useful tips for using a turban to simulate the steamer action.
