Hey ladies,

In an effort to "protect" my hair I did more damage than protecting. I've been wearing a bun for the past few months since the cold weather started because I wear sweaters to work and didnt want my hair rubbing on my sweater or wool coat, now I have this weird breakage where I always secure my ponytail.:wallbash: I'm tempted to just cut and start over but the rest of my hair is doing well and its growing so nicely. DH says just leave it and let it "catch up". Any ideas on how I can baby that section and wear my hair up at the same time without causing even more damage?

Did you oil the pony tail holder before you put it on hair? If not, that may solve the breakage problem that you are getting at that spot. To help baby that spot you may want to trash the holder for a while and just use Good Hair Day Pins to secure your bun.

I didn't oil it...:wallbash: They're "ouchless" ponytail holders so I thought it wouldn't be a problem. Boy was I wrong.

I don't think you should cut it. Baby it like your DH says and let it catch up. Try a protein treatment. When my hair was weakened by styling damage, I used the Aphogee Protein Reconstructor then used the balancing moisturizer after and it really helped with the breakage problem and made my hair super strong. Then, moisturize and baby your hair. Keep heat out of your hair to stop further dry (so air dry for a while if you don't already). You can bring it back to health. ALso, try a different protective style. They say if you keep using the same style you cause too much stress in one place. They say you need to change up every once in awhile. Have you tried hair claws, banana clips, hair zings or something else that doesn't require a ponytail holder. And also, did your ponytail holders have any metal on them?

agree:yep: continue to baby it but maybe you should also try moving the bun around. Hi, low or to the sides.

I agree with your DH, it will catch up. I usually get this tail that will reach my goal before the rest of my hair does. I used to get tempted to cut it, but the rest of my hair always catches up to it:grin:
