Well, Indian women use it as a pre-poo. They saturate the hair with it, leave in for hours or overnight and then wash. I do the same, the smell is too strong for me to use it has a daily oil.

do you have to wash it out? I can take the smell for some reason ....

You may be able to take the smell, but I don't think you want other people saying you smell like baby diapers.

I bought my sister some Indian products (amla oil included) and I noticed that she kept opening the lid and smelling the oil. She told me that she had a friend who had such a bad odor that she stopped talking to her even though the girl was really cool. Once she smelled the amla oil she realized that the girl must have been using amla oil in her hair but not washing it out. She feels really guilty now, but she still can't take the smell, lol.

I didn't know it smelled like that! I guess if you want to leave it in your hair, its ok...but if you want to cover up the scent, use peppermint oil :yep:

Eeew.

Amla Oil smells like Baby diapers???
Well, to me it does. Other women on the board have compared the smell to farm animals.

I use (and can only find) the Dabur brand and it stinks. If she purchased another brand then she may be able to get away with leaving it in her hair. I wouldn't try it because amla oil is tricky. Just when you think the smell isn't that bad , you'll get a whiff of something foul a little while later - it's the amla. And if it drips on a surface be sure to clean it right away, those couple of drops leave a stench!

At least your hair is pretty and you smell good now.

I wouldn't say that it stinks...it just has a very strong odor that lingers. I went to work with it in my hair one day and my coworkers kept calling me "Quickie Mart" :ohwell:

I used to leave it in, and one day while microwaving a muffin my friend yells out "who is microwaving indian food".:nono:

From then on I wash that junk out of my hair.
