If Amla oil is supposed to help stop shedding

I totally noticed this too--but i think it has to do more with me baggying with it as a pre-poo. I'm gonna start adding the amla to some conditioner and using the macherieamour method of pre-pooing with it and see how that turns out. HTH.

Thanks for replying. I'm also concerned that maybe my Amla oil isn't fresh enough. :( I bought it from a local Indian store, but I have no idea how long it's been on the shelf and there is no expiration date. Other than the shedding it is working well for me.

Yeah other than the shedding amla is amazing for me too--but yeah a lot of indian supply stores I go to (flushing, ny) have old/expired products...so i started biting the bullet and ordering from amazon.com
Also--are you using the Hesh Amla? I heard it was better than the Dabur Amla.

When you get a chance you should try the Hesh Amla--it smells a lot better and seems to be of higher quality. I heard some companies dye their Amla oils green so that it seems like the Amla content is higher :ohwell:. I'm in love w/ Hesh Amla..its about $5.99 on Amazon.com by IndianFoodStore.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it isn't the oil, but the manipulation of the oil on dry hair. I experience some shedding when prepooing with my homemade shikakai oil. I can pull shed hairs out with my fingers when rubbing my scalp :ohwell:. I just feel the long term affects of the oils/prepoo will outweigh the shedding in the end. IMO

so you dont think i'll be bald this time next year after shedding from amla? :lachen:

I dunno. :nono: Maybe I should mix garlic w/it? :lachen: But that would probably smell awful!

OMG :barf: Tell me when you do that so I can stand far far away :lachen:. Are you doing anything new to your hair/scalp besides the amla? Could it be seasonal shedding for you? I had a serious shed out this summer and now its much better.

Nope. Nothing else new. :nono: I noticed this a few years ago when I tried Amla oil too. That's why I stopped using it. Since I was also using Surge off and on at the time and now Amla oil is getting such rave reviews, I decided to give it another try. :( Plus, it isn't just due to prepooing w/oil in gemeral b/c this doesn't happen when I prepoo w/olive oil. :ohwell:

I make my own. No shedding. What I had to learn the hard way was that my hair doesn't like shikakai oil on it and I have to be careful to put it just on my scalp. It had me worried that my hair didn't like oil. ( Im still not sure- either)
I use a modification of Sareca's recipe
1/2 cup of virgin coconut oil
1 TBSP of Hesh Shikakai Powder
infuse in mini crock pot set at warm for 4 hours
strain, cool and add 1/2 cup of Jojoba oil (I dont know if heating the jojoba oil will change its composition so I dont heat it)
Put it in a narrow spray bottle so i can just direct the spray to my scalp.
Voila!!!!

I had this happen tonight. I was wondering if the excessive shedding was due to my being almost 8 weeks post relaxer. I prepoo'd with homemade shikakai and amla oil. While I put on my conditioner, shed hairs were coming out. When I cowashed.....well, it was ugly. I came online looking for something to help with the shedding.

Yeah but your paying like $9.99 for shipping on Amazon.com. But it's not because it's on Amazon. It's because Amazon is getting the product from TheIndianFoodStore.com. So that's what your paying for.

So, shikakai is not good for the shaft? Someone in another thread said that they only put the shikakai on their scalp and that they put the amla on the ends. :scratchch But, the directions for the Amla oil says to massage the oil into ur scalp and to also apply to the ends.

Honestly, guys, I'm curious now. Why does the oil make our hair shed? Is it the mineral oil? I really think that we need to know.

Not only that, but is this Alma Oil good for our hair types?

Is there anyone that is natural using the Alma Oil and getting good results?

Are there any relaxed ladies only putting it on their new growth?

My hair definately feels healthier. :yep: I'm getting good results. My only issue is the shedding.

UPDATE: Today, I prepooed w/the amla oil again, BUT this time I shampooed w/Swastik's shikakai shampoo bar. NO SHEDDING! In fact, there was not one single strand that came out. ABSOLUTELY NONE.

I still don't understand why though.
