Tourmaline versus Ceramic Irons

I actually thought they were one and the same. Tourmaline was just added to the ceramic in the ones that specified that it had tourmaline in it.

But I could be wrong so dont take my word for it.

oh ok...i was just trying to decide whether to get a FHI or Babyliss...im torn...big sis what iron do u use?

I have since become a fan of anything Tourmaline. Touramline is supposed to seal the cuticle with little to no damage.

do a search and find more info.

I've tried both and prefer Tourmaline hands down. Tourmaline blow dryer made my hair feel sleek,
smooth and straighter. The tourmaline hard hood dryer dries so much bettter. my sets come out much better.

I've used ceramic before (hot rollrs, blow dryer and flat iron) and wasn't all that impressed.

just my two cents.........................

thanks Yodie for ur input...i m leaning more towards the Babyliss too! we'll see:)

I wasn't sure what iron to get so i just googled 'tourmaline ceramic' and the first thing that popped up was the Sedu. It says "ionic ceramic pro flat iron with tourmaline technology". So basically i think you should go for both and the Sedu has both. I havent use it very often cuz the plates are smaller than the maxiglide, therefore it takes longer to do my big head - lol, but there should be reviews on amazon.com or one of those sellers. You should read up on it. HTH and good luck!

Thanks..Crazydaze..i think babyliss has both too...FHI not too sure:)

I thought the FHI was ceramic ionic, which is essentially what the tourmaline is. Check this out: http://www.frizzy2silky.com/shop/ceramic-flat-iron-207rvi-p-4213.html. That's the model I have and it's ionic. FHI Heat claims to be tourmaline, so they're ionic charged plates.

I was reading their description and it doesnt say tourmaline...it does say ceramic though...i know i can be slow sometimes...but are u saying ceramic and tourmaline are the same thing and are used interchangeably or something like that?

No, ceramic is not the same as tourmaline. The box I have says that the iron is ionic. On the site link, it describes the iron as having "ionic chraged ceramic plates." I equate that with tourmaling technology because tourmaline crystals simply charge the plates with ions.

Babyliss, Babyliss, Babyliss hands down. I got one for my mom and used it. It is wonderful. I thought I had a split end problem, it smoothed out my ends. It is great.

I really wish that I clearly understood the difference. I guess its time for me to read up and do some research. I recently purchased the 2008 Sedu model which is described as "True Nano Tourmaline Technology". I have used the FHI and CHI turbo which were both ceramic. The Sedu provided completely different results for me and I couldn't be happier. I don't iknow if it is the ceramic vs tourmaline difference or not. One reviewer described the 2008 nano tourmaline model as an upgrade from the earlier Sedu so who knows. I also have a tourmaline curling iron which I love. I guess I'm sticking with tourmaline.

i know right...all this ceramic,tourmaline, ionic, nano....blah blah blah:spinning:

There are plenty of flat irons that are tourmaline AND ceramic. . . SEDU being one of them.

I don't understand the difference I just know my hair is nice, shiny, and straight. . :yep:
