Why should you wait to relax your hair if you have shampoo'd within the last three days?

I was going to stretch for 15weeks but I decided I wanted a fresh start for 2008 so I can track my growth more precisely.

I washed on Tuesday and I am itching to relax. My sister-in-law is a stylist and gave me a Mizani Lye relaxer. I hope it works well so I can become solid on my relaxer of choice.

It is only because you tend to scratch your scalp while washing or is there another reason?

The minimum wait time is 48 hrs, the pores need that much time to close, and waiting decreases the amount of irritation you'd get during the process. I usually relax anywhere between 3-5 days after a shampoo. If you're worried a/b burning just base your scalp well.

I only know that it's important for the scalp not to be wet or damp in any way before relaxing. :)

Well, I want to relax tomorrow but maybe I'll wait for an extra day. IF not, Sunday is ideal. Thanx for the info.

I just found this in an article:

Do not wet or manipulate scalp in any way before application since a wet scalp will be more prone to damage if the chemicals overlap.

I believe it also has to do with the fact that a clean scalp has no protection from the chemicals. That is why we base. I guess the dirtier your scalp is, the more protected it is.

It is also their way (the makers of the relaxer) of keeping themselves free from a lawsuit. If it is stated in their instructions, they cannot be held responsible if you go bald for not following instructions. That is how a woman got 1 million $ from McDonald's when she got burned from putting coffee in between her legs. There was no warning to say the coffee was extra hot.:lachen: That's our legal system at work.

It is because the act of washing agitates your scalp & open your pores. Just wetting your scalp opens them too. It makes you more prone to burns. Just base really well & if you want, sit under a cool dryer for about 15 mins to close your pores.

OK!! Since then those cups have warnings wriiten on them. "Caution. Hot beverage may cause burns".
