How much protein can your hair handle?

My hair is protein sensitive. It doesn't take much to make my hair flip out. I'd like to know how many ladies we have with the same issue. What are you using and what are you doing to handle the problem?

Very light protein. The only protein my hair can handle is Apoghee light. My hair just doesn't need heavy protein which is a good thing. One less thing I have to worry about. I can't even use products with protein. Mango butter tore my hair up something serious. My hair looooves moisture:lick:

Mine is protein sensitive also. I use Kerafix protein reconstructor and not that often. I also use Giovanni Direct Leave-In, which has a little protein but my hair seems to handle it okay.

Earlier this year I used henna (protein) for the first time and my hair did just fine. I even used it again the very next day without problems and made sure I deep conditioned well with a good moisturizing conditioner (Humectin Extreme Moisturizing Conditioner). Henna is major protein but has a different effect on hair since it wraps around each strand and builds upon it.

I don't use protein very often now. At the beginning of my journey I did never to the point where my hair suffered. I've learnt that protein is good and useful but not in excess so I use lots of moisture instead and do heavy protein every 6 weeks. I'll do a light protein somewhere in between.

My hair thrives on protein use light protein every two weeks. I use ors paks, kerafix and Aphoghee hardcore every six to eight weeks. I always make sure to followup with keracare humecto or Kenra.

not alot! i too, did an overload of protein and totally destroyed the condition of my hair. now i know more about my hair, what proteins do etc so i try to use a lite protein once a month but now that i'm texlaxed i was trying to use it twice a month.

I've been using a light protein every 2 weeks and my hair is thriving.

Yeah, I've pretty much been focusing on the moisture part of my regimine and now I think my hair might be a little over moisturized so I have to focus on my protein. I think I might do one heavy duty protein treatment because the last time I did one was sometime in May, I think.:perplexed

My hair hates protein. Every time I put anything protein in my hair it gets super stiff and just sheds like crazy and breaks. If Henna is a protein then I think it's why I had to trim an inch earlier than when I wanted to.

BOOOO PROTEIN!!!

My hair only likes lite protein as well. I have also found that my hair does not like protein leave-ins at all unless its a serum like chi silk infusion.

This is what I do. Also my staples d/cs have light protein (ORS Pak & Praital Silk Worm) & so does my leave-in (Salerm21).

My hair is VERY sensitive to protein, even ORS Mayo makes it stiff and tangley. I co wash every day and dc twice a week with a moisturizing conditioner and my hair isn't overmoisturized at all. In fact, in some places, it's dry as a desert. The last protein treatment I did was ORS mayo, and that was months ago. I'll use a protein when I feel my hair needs it, but it hasn't needed it, so I don't use it. My hair thrives off of moisture, and I'm glad I don't have to use protein all of the time. One less thing to worry about :yep:

Nice to see I'm not the only one. So what light protein would you suggest? I'm trying to work out some kind of schedule. I'm going to henna tonight and do some dc with humecto as well to counter act the henna. I use the ORS hair mayo but my hair can't really take much of it. I'm thinking I need a light protein for every few weeks and then a heavy for every other month of something. I don't know if it's the type of protein or if it's to heavy?

I don't think my hair likes a lot of protein at all either...every time I overdo it I end up with stiff & tangled hair.....
