If so, how? If not, where do you go? How often do you do it/have someone else do it?

I twist my hair and then cut the thin tips until the ends are all one blunt length. This doesn't happen very often. Maybe twice a year at the most.

Hmmm...I braid my hair once a week (when I'm not in braids) to achieve a braid out and I think I'll use this method next time I cut. Do you about how much you end up cutting off? And does this help to get rid of the drasted knots?

You can do it in braids too but your braids wont stay unless you band them at the ends. Knots are inevitable- I cut the strand just above it with my very sharp scissors. Oh make sure you get hair cutting scissors they have the sharpness you need to not fray your ends.

When I was trimming my hair, I did the same thing - I would cut anything from 1/4 inch to about 3/4 of an inch. I was actively trying to trim out color though, so that's the reason for that....

I do the same thing. Do not use dull scissors, the splits and knots will be back the next week if you do.

I trim mine either in twists or loose. I am trimming off color too so I have been dusting every two weeks. Trimming will get rid of knots but they come back because the hair coils up on itself.

I usually just sit in front of a mirror holding sections of my hair taut and trim off the scraggly or rough ends. Then I go back through with my hands by feel and trim off as many of those tiny single strand knots on the ends as I can get if any were missed. I do it every 6 mos. I did it this weekend on flat ironed hair. I trim about 1/4 in. at the most.

I trim mine loose and always end up cutting off too much hair. Next time I'll be trimming the ends of my twists. I used to do that but I guess I thought I was big and bold.

Oh I meant to say I love your curls. Fab

I trim my own hair. I blow dry and pull it out and trim it off I haven't done a good job of the back becasue its not very long yet but I haven't tried since March so I am going to try again next week before I put the twist in. For me its easy I went to Cosmetology in high school. I love hair always have but they didnt' teach you how to take care of AA hair. I learned all that on here. I have always done my own perms as well. I trim my kids hair and shapped my sons hair with the clippers while he was growing up. He wouldn't let me touch him now.

I trim my own hair. Whenever I wash and condition, I inspect my ends. If they appear to be split or need a dusting I do it. Ever since I have been keeping my ends moist I have only had to dust twice a year.

I don't like to do it when in twist because it curls up. After detangling and before styling, I go through my hair section by section (as did when I had relaxed hair) and hold hair taught and trim/dust ends if necessary. Then I style in twists or whatever style I am going for.

I trim or dust whenever I feel like it. Maybe once or twice a year. I trim loose and try to make it as even as possible but I never wear my hair straight so it doesn't really matter too much.
