How often do you do them? And what treatment do you use? If you use an all natural treatment, can you post your recipe? I want to add it to my regimen, but not sure which way to go.

Hi

With protein treatments, one the biggest mistakes you can make and trust me we have all done it is to follow a set scheldule. The best approach to protein treatments is to do them when you need them. It is much harder to fix overdoing protein than it is to fix overdoing moisture.

I personally do a mild protein treatment every two weeks or so. That is when I my hair usually needs it. Protein treatments also vary in strength.

Some mild-medium ones which many people use often are

Aubrey Organics GPB
Motions silk protein conditioner
Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor
Nexxus Keraphix
Ors mayo
Motions CPR
ORS replenishing conditioner
Smooth and shine Silk fusion reconstructor

Stronger ones that are usually pulled out after a recent chemical service or in cases of more damage and breakage that just won't quit include

Nexxus Emergencee
Dudleys DRC
Duo tex by softsheen
Aphogee treatment for damaged hair

Signs that you need protein

hair won't hold on to moisture
hair is too stretchy when wet
hair feels mushy and weak

Remember to follow your protein treatments with a moisturizing conditoner to ensure your hair keeps a healthy protein/moisture balance. Too much in either direction will cause breakage.

Hope this helps

How often do you do them?

once every 2-4 months

And what treatment do you use?

usually I do henna treatments, but once a year or so I will use aphogee instead. I like them both. I like the henna for the color deposits b/c I have a few grey strands:ohwell: but I also like the aphogee b/c it doesn't take as long (imho)

henna (jamilla or pakistan)
1/3 cp red zinger tea w/ distilled water
4 drops each of tea tree oil, lavander, chamille
1/4 cup total of coconut, shea, castor oil mixed
1/3 cup conditioner (suave coconut mixed w/ trader joe spa nourish)

I let it sit under the heating pad for about 1 hr, then put it on my hair. I let it sit for hours. Rinse, dc then rinse and f/u with a acv rinse, air dry then I twist up my hair. For many more henna recipies you can go to:

can you describe what is too stretchy? like, what or how would that look? my hair didnt like a lot of protein when i was natural but now that i got texlaxed i'm concerned about if i should be using it more. i did pick up elucence protein conditioner but i am not sure how mild or strong it is. i only used it once in a about 4-5weeks.
does anyone know anything about that, elucence protein conditioner? i love elucence mb!!!:lick:

I use Mizani Kerafuse Intensive Protein Treatment I do it about every 2 weeks. However, I use the entire Mizani hair care line with little deviation to other hair care products and I'm constantly moisturizing my hair. Its working for me thus far.

Too stretchy would be like when you wash your hair, your hands stretch and stretch when wet. The elucence protein conditoner is a mild one. It actually is just like the elasta qp breakage control serum.

i just started doing protein treatments
i've only done 2 treatments so far

i'm using the aphogee 2-step (hardcore)
and i'm doing it every 6 weeks

i'll do one again when i'm ready to re-do my twists
in mid january

hmmm....sorry for being on the slow bus but i still dont understand:look:
so maybe i'll use the elucence protein every 2 weeks. i'm sooooooo scared to use protein often though. i had planned on using it once a month

Maybe this will help, if you find that your strands seem a bit mushy and too soft when wet, you might need a little protein. Keep using it once a month if everything seems fine now. Other signs that you might need protein is if your hair stops holding on to moisture. Like if you moisturize and moisturize but your hair still feels dry, then a mild protein treatment would help.

BUMPING!
Anyone know where I can get the Smooth N Shine Therapy Silk Fusion 60 Second Critical Repair that comes in a pak in a NORMAL SIZED bottle? I really like it and love the little specs of glitter it leaves in my NG.

I can't keep buying those little packs for $.94 like the ORS packs that i had to eventually just break down and buy the bottle.

Anyone seen a full sized bottle on a shelf somewhere? TIA!

I love the glitter too.

I was looking for this and on amazon, they had a jar of it but the seller never got it in stock so I could buy it. It just said currently unavaible but I am going to keep looking. I will let you know if I see anything.

I pre-poo with Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor on dry hair once a week, and occasionally use the stronger Aphogee after I've finished relaxing my hair which is every 8 weeks.
